# **Bite-Sized Episode: Grace Beverley on Passion, Purpose, and the Journey to Success**
In this bite-sized episode, we revisit our conversation with Grace Beverley, founder and CEO of Tala and Shreddy, from Episode 59 of the High Performance Podcast. Grace offers a unique perspective on the pursuit of passion and purpose in today's world, where social media often creates unrealistic expectations.
Grace emphasizes that passion and purpose are not necessarily prerequisites for success. Instead, she suggests that sometimes we need to go through difficult experiences before we find what truly fulfills us. She encourages listeners to focus on enjoying the work they do and finding fulfillment in the process, rather than waiting for a grand passion to strike.
Grace also discusses the challenges of managing people with more experience and navigating the complexities of modern life in the age of social media. She highlights the importance of staying true to oneself and avoiding the pressure to conform to societal norms.
Throughout the episode, Grace's insights provide valuable lessons for anyone seeking to find their passion, achieve success, and live a fulfilling life. Her message is a reminder that the journey to success is often filled with challenges, but it is through these challenges that we grow and discover our true purpose.
## **Key Takeaways:**
1. **Passion and purpose are not always immediate:** Grace emphasizes that it is okay not to have a clear passion or purpose at the beginning of one's career. She encourages listeners to focus on enjoying their work and finding fulfillment in the process, rather than waiting for a grand passion to strike.
2. **Embrace the challenges:** Grace acknowledges that the journey to success is often filled with challenges. She encourages listeners to embrace these challenges as opportunities for growth and learning, rather than as obstacles to be avoided.
3. **Stay true to yourself:** Grace emphasizes the importance of staying true to oneself and avoiding the pressure to conform to societal norms. She encourages listeners to pursue their own passions and goals, regardless of what others may think.
4. **Find fulfillment in the journey:** Grace highlights the importance of finding fulfillment in the journey itself, rather than solely focusing on the destination. She believes that the process of working hard and overcoming challenges can be just as rewarding as achieving the final goal.

[02:25.580 -> 02:27.160] Maybe you're just searching for something,

[02:31.720 -> 02:33.120] It's absolutely free.
[02:33.120 -> 02:34.280] I hope you enjoy it.
[02:34.280 -> 02:37.380] It's today's Bite Size episode of High Performance.
[02:39.280 -> 02:41.400] With the rise of kind of social media
[02:41.400 -> 02:43.240] and you seeing people's careers everywhere
[02:43.240 -> 02:44.740] and you seeing people fulfilling their dreams
[02:44.740 -> 02:46.940] and all of that, the idea of this kind of
[02:46.940 -> 02:52.080] passion and purpose rather than being this thing that's kind of like you know
[02:52.080 -> 02:54.940] you should be able to put into your work at different points and you should be
[02:54.940 -> 02:59.080] able to yes follow your passion and yes that's a fantastic thing but also I
[02:59.080 -> 03:03.100] think that it can now be sold almost as a kind of like must-have and it's kind
[03:03.100 -> 03:06.960] of reverted this trajectory of kind of earning money,
[03:06.960 -> 03:08.480] doing your work, earning your money,
[03:08.480 -> 03:11.040] and then getting your purpose or whatever that might be.
[03:11.040 -> 03:15.400] It's inverted it so that we now want this kind of passion and purpose
[03:15.400 -> 03:18.120] at the beginning of our working lives.
[03:18.120 -> 03:22.560] And as soon as we hit kind of 21 and come out of uni or 18 or 16
[03:22.560 -> 03:25.980] and come out of school, is this kind of huge anxiety
[03:25.980 -> 03:27.460] that you're not fulfilling your purpose.
[03:27.460 -> 03:30.660] Because I don't think that I have a big passion.
[03:30.660 -> 03:35.500] I think my passion a lot of the time can be, can come after the hard work when I see something's
[03:35.500 -> 03:36.760] doing really well.
[03:36.760 -> 03:40.880] And so what I completely agree in the way that I think when you have a passion for something
[03:40.880 -> 03:45.320] like I did for music or you know, that it can be a real driving force
[03:45.320 -> 03:51.260] in improving where you're going and it makes it far more enjoyable. But what I think I
[03:51.260 -> 03:58.900] really try and avoid saying as well is that it has to, it's kind of a must have or it's
[03:58.900 -> 04:03.320] contingent on your work being worth it or whatever that might be, because, you know,
[04:03.320 -> 04:06.600] there won't be the passion when you wake up or the motivation when you wake up at 5 a.m.
[04:06.600 -> 04:10.520] and have to drag yourself out of bed there won't be it when you're rejected
[04:10.520 -> 04:14.040] there won't be it when you've had a bad day and feel like you're not good at
[04:14.040 -> 04:18.360] your job so in for me it's really been about kind of thinking okay if I'm not
[04:18.360 -> 04:22.080] exactly sure what my like big overarching passion is can I just get
[04:22.080 -> 04:25.440] things I enjoy into my work and then I enjoy
[04:25.440 -> 04:29.400] it more and more as I work harder and harder as well.
