Zack George, one of the world’s top CrossFit athletes, and UK’s Fittest Man 2020 joined in S4 with an incredible story of dramatic change, resilience and hard work. As a child and early teenager, Zack was severely overweight and deeply unhappy in his body. It was his father’s offer of a Playstation to lose some weight that became the catalyst for change in Zack’s life.
The biggest learning Zack wanted to pass on was the confidence he got from being healthy and happy, something that far outweighed any external award.

In this episode of the High Performance Podcast, Jake Humphrey and Damian Hughes are joined by Zack George, the UK's Fittest Man 2020 and a leading CrossFit athlete. Zack shares his incredible journey of transformation from an overweight and unhappy teenager to a confident and successful athlete.
Zack emphasizes the significance of internal motivation and the confidence gained from being healthy and happy, which he believes outweighs any external awards or achievements. He highlights the importance of setting goals, working towards them, and striving to be the best version of oneself.
The discussion centers around the idea that happiness and fulfillment can be achieved through a combination of self-awareness, goal-setting, and consistent effort. Zack's story serves as an inspiration, demonstrating how a change in mindset and lifestyle can lead to remarkable personal growth and happiness.
The episode also explores the concept of "flow," a state of heightened focus and engagement where time seems to disappear. Zack explains that moments of flow often occur during physical activity or creative pursuits and are associated with increased happiness and well-being.
The hosts encourage listeners to reflect on their own experiences of flow and to seek out activities that bring them joy and a sense of purpose. They emphasize the importance of self-care and taking time to appreciate the positive aspects of life.
Overall, this episode provides valuable insights into the power of internal motivation, the pursuit of happiness, and the importance of finding activities that bring fulfillment and a sense of flow.

[02:08.780 -> 02:12.960] Hi there, welcome along to another high performance podcast.
[02:12.960 -> 02:15.140] This is just another one of our short little
[02:15.140 -> 02:17.200] bite-sized episodes where we know that you can't
[02:17.200 -> 02:19.000] necessarily give us a full hour of your time,
[02:19.000 -> 02:21.420] but what we can still give you in just the next few minutes
[02:21.420 -> 02:24.500] is some really interesting learnings from the guests
[02:24.500 -> 02:28.040] who've joined us over the past few series of High Performance. As always,
[02:28.040 -> 02:31.120] huge thanks to Lotus Cars, our founding partners. Without them,
[02:31.120 -> 02:34.560] there is no High Performance. You can find out more details about them at
[02:34.560 -> 02:39.720] lotuscars.com. But let's get on with today because a few episodes ago,
[02:39.720 -> 02:44.880] we were joined by a man called Zach George, who was recently the fittest man in
[02:44.880 -> 02:45.280] Britain.
[02:45.280 -> 02:49.160] He's written a book about his experiences and his amazing journey. He
[02:49.160 -> 02:52.680] admits to us he was an overweight teenager but then fitness changed his
[02:52.680 -> 02:58.000] life, changed his mindset. Here is Zach George and a short clip from when he
[02:58.000 -> 03:00.240] appeared on the High Performance podcast.
[03:00.240 -> 03:08.640] The main thing that springs to mind is confidence because I wasn't a confidence kid at all and
[03:08.640 -> 03:13.720] I wasn't happy in the way I looked. So as a kid I would never want to take my top off
[03:13.720 -> 03:18.680] to now I pretty much live with my top off. CrossFit is always trained with the top off
[03:18.680 -> 03:27.460] so it's that self-confidence and self-happiness that no external reward can give you more so than
[03:27.460 -> 03:30.320] just enjoying your own body and how you look.
[03:30.320 -> 03:34.320] I think that's definitely the biggest thing I've taken from this journey is just liking
[03:34.320 -> 03:39.420] the way I look and feeling confident and what's that brought to me in my everyday life.
[03:39.420 -> 03:47.360] And also it's just being able to set a goal and work towards it and achieve it and giving yourself
[03:47.360 -> 03:51.720] the best opportunity by being healthiest, being your fittest and just generally looking
[03:51.720 -> 03:53.300] after your body.
[03:53.300 -> 03:58.920] I think I take a pride in being healthy and I think that's something that I like to again,
[03:58.920 -> 04:04.600] a message I like to get across to people is being healthy and being happy in yourself
[04:04.600 -> 04:06.680] is one of the most important things in life.
[04:06.680 -> 04:10.560] And if you can find that somehow within your life,
[04:10.560 -> 04:12.600] then that's something that is greatly achieved.
[04:12.600 -> 04:14.320] Not everyone finds that.
[04:14.320 -> 04:16.120] There was loads of good stuff from Zach,
[04:16.120 -> 04:17.760] and you can find out more and hear more
[04:17.760 -> 04:20.800] by just searching for his episode on high performance.
[04:20.800 -> 04:23.200] And I guess I just want to be really clear here, Damien.
[04:23.200 -> 04:24.720] When he says, as we just heard that,
[04:24.720 -> 04:25.000] I believe that being fit can get you to a happier place. Ac rwy'n gobeithio, rwy'n eisiau bod yn glir iawn yma Damien, pan dweud, fel y gwnaethom ni'n clywed,
[04:25.000 -> 04:28.000] dwi'n credu bod y bydd y bydd yn gallu i chi gael y lle mwy hapus.
[04:28.000 -> 04:32.000] Mae hynny'n iawn iddo iddo iddo, oherwydd dyna'r peth sy'n gweithio iddo iddo.
[04:32.000 -> 04:34.000] Dydyn ni ddim yn dweud, gadewch i'r byd yn mwy hapus.
[04:34.000 -> 04:38.000] Dydyn ni'n dweud, mae'r peth sy'n gweithio iddo i chi'n y peth sy'n bwysig.
[04:38.000 -> 04:41.000] Y her i bobl yw, beth yw'r peth?
[04:41.000 -> 04:43.000] Beth yw'r peth sy'n fy nghyflawni'n fwyaf i'r bobl?
[04:43.000 -> 04:46.400] Ie, ac rwy'n credu, ac y ffordd mwywyaf o ddechrau ymdrechu ar hynny, Jake,
[04:46.400 -> 04:48.960] yw meddwl amdano, mewn cyfnod, pan rydyn ni'n seilio ar targedau,
[04:48.960 -> 04:50.880] mae tri ffyrdd y mae angen i ni fynd drwy,
[04:50.880 -> 04:53.760] ac yr hyn sy'n ei ddysgrifio Zac yno yw'r ffyrdd gyntaf,
[04:53.760 -> 04:55.680] sy'n seilio ar ddewis.
[04:55.680 -> 04:57.600] Beth yw'r peth rydych chi eisiau ei teimlo?
[04:57.600 -> 04:58.640] Beth sy'n gwneud i chi fod yn hapus?
[04:58.640 -> 05:01.040] Beth sy'n rhoi'r hysbysiad hwnnw i chi, y rhwydwaith hwnnw?
[05:01.040 -> 05:03.600] Ac mae'n aml yn rhywbeth sy'n gallu cael ei meithredu,
[05:03.600 -> 05:07.440] mae'n unig beth sy'n ymdneud â'i gynhyrchu a'i hymdrechu i chi. Felly iddo, mae'r
[05:07.440 -> 05:10.480] cyfansoddiaeth yn dod o'r teimlo'n ffysigol yn ymgyrchu.
[05:10.480 -> 05:14.000] Y nifer nesaf rydych chi'n ei sefydlu yw yna gynhwys, sef y gallwch chi yna dechrau
[05:14.000 -> 05:18.320] meysu'n gynlluniau a ffyrdd a ffigurau, felly efallai y gallwch chi benj-dwylo
[05:18.320 -> 05:22.800] o weithiau mwy o weith, neu rhedeg o ffyrdd yn amser peth.
[05:22.800 -> 05:26.960] Ond yna ydych chi'n mynd i'r broses, ac mae hyn yn y ffyrdd byd-byd y mae'n cael ei gynnwys.
[05:26.960 -> 05:28.800] Ac y byddai'n fwyaf y byddwch chi'n cymryd y ffyrdd hynny,
[05:28.800 -> 05:31.000] sy'n yr hyn y mae Zach wedi dweud wrthom,
[05:31.000 -> 05:32.880] yna byddwch chi'n dechrau cael eich cymryd,
[05:32.880 -> 05:34.440] ymgyrch eich cymorth,
[05:34.440 -> 05:36.040] sy'n cyrraedd eich cyfnod,
[05:36.040 -> 05:37.920] sy'n gwneud eich bod chi'n teimlo mwy hapus
[05:37.920 -> 05:39.440] neu'n fwy hyderus.
[05:39.440 -> 05:41.480] Ac rwy'n credu fy mhobl sy'n clywed
[05:41.480 -> 05:43.040] ymysg ymwneud â'r hyder,
[05:43.040 -> 05:46.000] yw o'r sgwrsau rydyn ni wedi'u cael ar y cyflwyniad cyhoeddus,
[05:46.000 -> 05:48.000] os oedd Dan Carter,
[05:48.000 -> 05:50.000] sy'n siarad am gael
[05:50.000 -> 05:52.000] ei llyfr gwybodaeth,
[05:52.000 -> 05:54.000] lle pob dim, ydyn nhw'n ymuno a'n ysgrifennu am yr holl bethau y mae'n ddiolchgar arnyn nhw,
[05:54.000 -> 05:56.000] neu os oedd Matthew McConaughey,
[05:56.000 -> 05:58.000] y gweithwyr, pan ddewison ni a sgwrsodd am
[05:58.000 -> 06:05.120] ddewis am ffyrddau ffyrddau ffyrdd. Ac fe ddweud wrtho i ni, yn ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi-ddi us in great detail about keeping a diary because the diary allowed him to go back
[06:05.120 -> 06:08.720] to the times when he felt really good and work it out and I think the key here
[06:08.720 -> 06:12.440] for so many of the people that have joined us Damien is that they spend time
[06:12.440 -> 06:16.560] really getting to know themselves to the point where before they go to bed in the
[06:16.560 -> 06:19.680] evening even if it just takes 10 minutes they just write down the things about
[06:19.680 -> 06:23.840] the day that have been great and I think sometimes we're so busy with life we
[06:23.840 -> 06:27.960] forget to actually look whether a certain person is a fountain or a drain,
[06:27.960 -> 06:35.520] whether a certain situation is a massive issue for us. I talk often that fear
[06:35.520 -> 06:39.240] stands for false evidence appearing real, you know, are there things that make you
[06:39.240 -> 06:43.200] feel anxious and you realize actually there's no need for that anxiety. All of
[06:43.200 -> 06:45.520] those things get you closer to happiness and actually finding the time, making the ac yn gwblhau nad oedd angen i'r anxieti. Mae'r pethau hynny'n teimlo i chi ymlaen at y bobl tebyg
[06:45.520 -> 06:49.080] ac yn gwblhau'r amser, yn gwneud y gwasanaeth yn eich bywyd
[06:49.080 -> 06:50.920] i ymdrechu a edrych yn ôl
[06:50.920 -> 06:52.240] a gofyn i chi,
[06:52.240 -> 06:56.080] a oedd hwnna'n gyfnod o gyfnod da neu ddau munud y dydd i mi?
[06:56.080 -> 06:57.320] Os oedd hwnna'n gyfnod da,
[06:57.320 -> 06:58.280] gofynwch i chi ddewis y cyfnod,
[06:58.280 -> 06:59.400] gofynwch i chi ddewis y lle,
[06:59.400 -> 07:00.960] os oedd hwnna'n gyfnod ddau munud ddau munud,
[07:00.960 -> 07:02.760] gwneud yn siŵr eich bod chi'n mynd yno fel mwyaf o'r gofyn.
[07:02.760 -> 07:08.080] Mae ff-syllwyd llwyr o'r llyfr ff sy'n dod i'r gofyn yma, a dyw h, mae'n bwysig i chi fynd yno fel ychydig o amserau. Ie, mae llyfr llaw F sy'n dod i'r ddewis yma, sy'n ymwneud â fflow.
[07:08.080 -> 07:12.480] Mae'n dyn o fflow, y momentydd y mae'r amser yn deimlo'n
[07:12.480 -> 07:15.360] ddysgu pan ydych chi'n teimlo'n ymwneud â'r tasg a'ch
[07:15.360 -> 07:18.880] hoffech chi'n ei wneud ar gael. Mae'r mwyaf o momentydd o fflow,
[07:18.880 -> 07:21.040] sy'n unig yr hyn rydych chi wedi'i ddysgrifio, Jake,
[07:21.040 -> 07:24.320] mwy hapus y byddwn ni'n teimlo, ac rydw i'n gobeithio i unrhyw un
[07:24.320 -> 07:25.840] mynd a hyfforddi nhio, fel y dweud,
[07:26.640 -> 07:31.520] oherwydd y llyfr gwybodaeth neu dim ond rhoi eich hunain munud ar y diwedd o'r diwrnod i
[07:31.520 -> 07:35.920] ymdrechu ar beth oedd y momentau lle roeddech chi'n ymdrechus mwyaf hapus ac yna ceisio eu rhifio
[07:35.920 -> 07:38.960] ymlaen fel y gall. Dyma'r le i ddechrau'n ddiddorol.
[07:40.160 -> 07:46.400] Mae'n ddiddorol. Wel, gobeithio y byddai'r hit o hit from the High Performance Podcast was helpful for you. Don't forget we have got
[07:47.400 -> 07:53.440] 60-70 episodes waiting for you. If you've not listened to them go back check them out and I would suggest going to
[07:54.000 -> 07:59.440] listen to episodes where we speak to people that you don't necessarily think you're going to get much from because those are the ones that will
[07:59.440 -> 08:04.440] Surprise you go out of your comfort zone a bit and just see what someone else can teach you about your life
[08:01.760 -> 08:05.000] go out of your comfort zone a bit and just see what someone else can teach you about your life.

[08:11.360 -> 08:12.240] about happiness.
