- Purpose can evolve over time, and it's important to reflect on what truly matters and aligns with one's values.

[00:00.000 -> 00:05.200] As a person with a very deep voice, I'm hired all the time for advertising campaigns.
[00:05.200 -> 00:10.880] But a deep voice doesn't sell B2B, and advertising on the wrong platform doesn't sell B2B either.
[00:10.880 -> 00:14.720] That's why if you're a B2B marketer, you should use LinkedIn ads.
[00:14.720 -> 00:19.920] LinkedIn has the targeting capabilities to help you reach the world's largest professional audience.
[00:19.920 -> 00:24.080] That's right, over 70 million decision makers all in one place.
[00:24.080 -> 00:26.840] All the bigwigs and mediumwigs.
[00:26.840 -> 00:29.520] Also smallwigs who are on the path to becoming bigwigs.
[00:29.520 -> 00:31.760] Okay, that's enough about wigs.
[00:31.760 -> 00:36.200] LinkedIn ads allows you to focus on getting your B2B message to the right people.
[00:36.200 -> 00:41.360] So does that mean you should use ads on LinkedIn instead of hiring me, the man with the deepest
[00:41.360 -> 00:42.840] voice in the world?
[00:42.840 -> 00:44.960] Yes, yes it does.
[00:44.960 -> 00:47.000] Get started today and see why LinkedIn
[00:47.000 -> 00:49.440] is the place to be, to be.
[00:49.440 -> 00:52.720] We'll even give you a $100 credit on your next campaign.
[00:52.720 -> 00:55.880] Go to linkedin.com slash results to claim your credit.
[00:55.880 -> 00:58.180] That's linkedin.com slash results.
[00:58.180 -> 00:59.560] Terms and conditions apply.
[01:02.560 -> 01:04.720] On our podcast, we love to highlight businesses
[01:04.720 -> 01:06.540] that are doing things a better way so you
[01:06.540 -> 01:11.600] can live a better life and that's why when I found Mint Mobile I had to share.

[01:36.280 -> 01:41.120] And by the way, the quality of Mint Mobile's wireless service in comparison to providers
[01:41.120 -> 01:44.040] that we've worked with before is incredible.
[01:44.040 -> 01:46.320] Mint Mobile is here to rescue you

[03:11.520 -> 03:12.700] The link is right there.
[03:12.700 -> 03:13.540] Get involved.
[03:13.540 -> 03:15.160] But I'm so pleased you've come along
[03:15.160 -> 03:17.720] at the end of what is no doubt a busy week for all of us,
[03:17.720 -> 03:20.560] just to be lifted up by a short bit of inspiration.
[03:20.560 -> 03:22.920] And today is a really, really interesting topic
[03:22.920 -> 03:24.720] from an amazing woman as well.
[03:24.720 -> 03:27.620] Right, let's do it then. It's time for today's bite-sized episode with the
[03:27.620 -> 03:32.660] amazing swimming coach Mel Marshall. How about this for a little burst of
[03:32.660 -> 03:37.200] inspiration for you. If you're in line with your moral purpose and you're in
[03:37.200 -> 03:41.340] line with your reason why, I think there's this 20% factor that you can get
[03:41.340 -> 03:46.440] out of people for no finance, for nothing, just because they're all aligned to one mission.
[03:46.440 -> 03:47.760] And it's really easily seen.
[03:48.560 -> 03:51.280] I always talk about the endurance of parents.
[03:51.560 -> 03:55.360] So when I was in my old club job, the endurance of some of these parents at
[03:55.360 -> 03:59.600] five in the morning until seven at night, selling on the tombola to help raise
[03:59.600 -> 04:03.440] funds, helping with charity missions, you know, helping at the meets and stuff.
[04:03.440 -> 04:06.020] I'm like, their moral purpose was,
[04:06.020 -> 04:09.080] sounds really, really soft and flake, but love.
[04:09.080 -> 04:11.560] And they were so in line with their,
[04:11.560 -> 04:12.760] how much they loved their children
[04:12.760 -> 04:15.000] and how much they love what their children were doing.
[04:15.000 -> 04:17.000] They gave you an extra 20%.
[04:17.000 -> 04:19.120] And I just think it comes back to that.
[04:19.120 -> 04:20.800] You to create a real commitment culture,
[04:20.800 -> 04:26.080] you have to lead, inform and inspire people to fall in love with the
[04:26.080 -> 04:31.240] same things that are important to you, but also to fall in love with the journey they're
[04:31.240 -> 04:37.040] going to go on to reach a destination. And even if you win or lose at the end of the
[04:37.040 -> 04:41.440] destination, the journey that you create to get there, they will always look back on as
[04:41.440 -> 04:43.760] something that, God, I'm glad I took that opportunity.
[04:43.760 -> 04:46.280] It's a really interesting topic, this, isn't it?
[04:46.280 -> 04:48.920] And I'm always really careful talking about
[04:48.920 -> 04:52.160] finding that thing, because I think that quite often
[04:52.160 -> 04:53.760] we put too much pressure on ourselves.
[04:53.760 -> 04:56.640] You know, we think, well, I don't have that purpose in life
[04:56.640 -> 04:58.880] because I just do this job,
[04:58.880 -> 05:02.280] or I just go to work to earn money to pay, you know,
[05:02.280 -> 05:04.760] the mortgage and feed my kids and stuff.
[05:04.760 -> 05:07.880] But all that is vital and all that is absolutely necessary
[05:07.880 -> 05:09.920] and we can't all live in this world where we go,
[05:09.920 -> 05:13.240] hey, I was really passionate about rock climbing
[05:13.240 -> 05:16.800] so I quit the rat race and I moved to Nepal
[05:16.800 -> 05:19.840] and I spend all my days climbing and it fulfills me.
[05:19.840 -> 05:21.840] Like that's not reality.
[05:21.840 -> 05:24.440] But I think reality is that all of us should be able
[05:24.440 -> 05:26.880] to find a deep purpose in life.
[05:26.880 -> 05:29.120] And there's research that says millennials,
[05:29.120 -> 05:32.160] that says that young people are so much more in tuned now
[05:32.160 -> 05:33.940] with having a purpose,
[05:33.940 -> 05:36.320] to the point where they will spend far more money
[05:36.320 -> 05:39.300] with businesses who they understand the purpose
[05:39.300 -> 05:40.140] of that business,
[05:40.140 -> 05:42.560] rather than just giving their money to the first business
[05:42.560 -> 05:43.780] that advertises with them.
[05:43.780 -> 05:45.260] It's all a bit deeper now.
[05:45.260 -> 05:47.360] It's like, what do you stand for?
[05:47.360 -> 05:48.640] What are you about?
[05:48.640 -> 05:50.600] What are your non-negotiables?
[05:50.600 -> 05:51.640] What are your values?
[05:51.640 -> 05:53.560] And I think no matter what our job is,
[05:53.560 -> 05:56.240] what our life is, how busy we are, how stressed we are,
[05:56.240 -> 05:58.000] how much we have going on,
[05:58.000 -> 06:01.520] all of us can find a true purpose in life.
[06:01.520 -> 06:03.080] And the purpose doesn't have to be
[06:03.080 -> 06:10.520] the overarching grand thing. The purpose doesn't have to be the overarching grand thing it doesn't the purpose doesn't have to be the headline the purpose can be what you
[06:10.520 -> 06:15.960] do whilst you're carrying out your daily duties so you know what is the purpose
[06:15.960 -> 06:20.880] what is your purpose for being a partner it's not just coexisting with someone is
[06:20.880 -> 06:23.160] it and getting through each day and hoping that you're still here tomorrow
[06:23.160 -> 06:26.420] it's about bringing the most you can to their life, it's about
[06:26.420 -> 06:30.060] enriching them, uplifting them, hoping that they do the same to you, challenging
[06:30.060 -> 06:36.020] each other at certain times, going on a journey together, experiencing stuff,
[06:36.020 -> 06:41.000] exploring things. That's the purpose of being someone's partner. Or what about
[06:41.000 -> 06:44.840] your job? You know you might think that you just do a job literally because it
[06:44.840 -> 06:48.600] pays the mortgage, that's absolutely fine. But what is
[06:48.600 -> 06:53.160] the purpose within that job? How can you reach people that you work with? How can
[06:53.160 -> 06:57.440] you change the way that your business operates? How can you have a real impact
[06:57.440 -> 07:00.040] with the customers? How can you have an impact with your colleagues? How can you
[07:00.040 -> 07:03.900] have an impact with anyone that you touch in your in your job? Make that your
[07:03.900 -> 07:08.320] purpose. Find the thing outside of just earning the money
[07:08.320 -> 07:09.680] that gives you a purpose,
[07:09.680 -> 07:11.920] because it just leads to something
[07:11.920 -> 07:16.140] so much more fulfilling in life generally.
[07:16.140 -> 07:18.000] And I think one of the biggest things, right,
[07:18.000 -> 07:20.160] is that we all think that finding a purpose
[07:20.160 -> 07:22.080] is really difficult and it's really challenging
[07:22.080 -> 07:24.800] and it's like this huge journey we have to go on.
[07:24.800 -> 07:26.020] I don't think it is.
[07:27.120 -> 07:27.960] I honestly don't.
[07:27.960 -> 07:30.040] I think that sometimes having a purpose,
[07:30.040 -> 07:34.040] your purpose can just be improving the lives
[07:34.040 -> 07:35.720] of everyone around you.
[07:35.720 -> 07:36.880] That could just be your purpose.
[07:36.880 -> 07:39.160] Now you can still go and watch football
[07:39.160 -> 07:40.880] or you can still go and do your yoga class
[07:40.880 -> 07:42.200] or you can still go to your job
[07:42.200 -> 07:43.760] and you can still go to the pub with your mates
[07:43.760 -> 07:46.480] or go clubbing at the weekend but you do it all with the
[07:46.480 -> 07:53.080] purpose of making the world better for everyone around you or you focus on the
[07:53.080 -> 07:57.320] environment or you focus on your family or you focus on your own health or you
[07:57.320 -> 08:00.440] focus on the health of those people around you but just find something
[08:00.440 -> 08:04.640] greater that just coexists alongside everything else that you're doing so you
[08:04.640 -> 08:08.580] still live your life but you just have a purpose and there's no
[08:08.580 -> 08:13.340] doubt about it it's the single most fulfilling thing that you can do and
[08:13.340 -> 08:17.580] Damien and I talk about it in great detail in in our book actually just
[08:17.580 -> 08:20.580] doing something is one thing but doing something with a real purpose and a real
[08:20.580 -> 08:27.420] passion doing it with ownership doing it with an understanding making sure it comes from your heart, not just your head,
[08:27.420 -> 08:28.980] will transform your life,
[08:28.980 -> 08:30.100] and it'll still be the same life,
[08:30.100 -> 08:31.220] and you'll still do the same job,
[08:31.220 -> 08:33.060] and you'll still do the same things,
[08:33.060 -> 08:34.540] but it will be more fulfilling.
[08:34.540 -> 08:36.500] And thank you so much to Mel Marshall
[08:36.500 -> 08:37.580] for coming on High Performance
[08:37.580 -> 08:38.980] and spending her time talking to us.
[08:38.980 -> 08:40.180] If you wanna hear the full episode,
[08:40.180 -> 08:42.260] it's just packed with absolutely brilliant gems.
[08:42.260 -> 08:44.300] And of course, her swimmer as well, Adam Peaty,
[08:44.300 -> 08:46.800] he's on the pod as well, So you can track down both of those episodes
[08:47.360 -> 08:50.160] Just go into the back catalog find them get involved with them
[08:50.200 -> 08:56.080] But can I just take this opportunity to say thank you really for keeping on coming back to high performance the whole purpose of us
[08:56.520 -> 09:02.820] Our infinite purpose as Suzie Marr would say and Suzie Marr is the entrepreneur who created tropic skincare
[09:02.980 -> 09:05.080] She spoke to us about an infinite purpose,
[09:05.080 -> 09:06.320] and that's when it goes even deeper.
[09:06.320 -> 09:07.920] So you have your purpose,
[09:07.920 -> 09:10.520] but then you create something infinite from it.
[09:10.520 -> 09:12.360] So your purpose is something that never ends,
[09:12.360 -> 09:14.720] and the infinite purpose of high performance
[09:14.720 -> 09:17.720] is to improve the lives of people around the world
[09:17.720 -> 09:19.000] every single day,
[09:19.000 -> 09:20.800] and help them take a step closer
[09:20.800 -> 09:23.560] to living a more high performance life.
[09:23.560 -> 09:24.560] Now that's our purpose,
[09:24.560 -> 09:25.520] and the great thing is there's always more people to reach. There's always a step closer to high performance more high performance life. Now that's our purpose, and the great thing is,
[09:25.520 -> 09:27.160] there's always more people to reach.
[09:27.160 -> 09:28.880] There's always a step closer to high performance
[09:28.880 -> 09:29.880] that we can get to.
[09:29.880 -> 09:33.920] So the purpose is absolutely, without question, infinite.
[09:33.920 -> 09:35.960] So good luck finding your purpose,
[09:35.960 -> 09:37.880] but don't let it be a millstone around your neck.
[09:37.880 -> 09:40.280] Don't sit here thinking, man, I don't feel I have a purpose,
[09:40.280 -> 09:43.480] because now I feel bad about things,
[09:43.480 -> 09:45.960] and you have less self-worth because of it.
[09:45.960 -> 09:47.800] That's not what this is about.
[09:47.800 -> 09:51.240] This is about just saying, live your life, do your thing,
[09:51.240 -> 09:54.480] but just think deeply about what your purpose is
[09:54.480 -> 09:56.440] and it might not come to you today or next week
[09:56.440 -> 09:58.360] or next month or next year,
[09:58.360 -> 10:00.520] but I'm pretty sure you'll find it.
[10:00.520 -> 10:03.360] Thanks as always for listening to High Performance.
[10:03.360 -> 10:05.080] Thank you very much to the whole team around us,
[10:05.080 -> 10:08.560] to Finn Ryan, to Will, to Hannah, to Eve,
[10:08.560 -> 10:09.920] the whole High Performance team.
[10:09.920 -> 10:11.200] The whole reason we're doing it,
[10:11.200 -> 10:13.360] the whole purpose for this is you though,
[10:13.360 -> 10:14.840] so we can impact your life.
[10:14.840 -> 10:16.520] And it makes such a difference to us
[10:16.520 -> 10:18.400] if you can just spend two minutes
[10:18.400 -> 10:20.760] shouting out High Performance on your social media,
[10:20.760 -> 10:22.780] on your Instagram, on your LinkedIn,
[10:22.780 -> 10:25.320] just pinging it to some work colleagues on email
[10:25.320 -> 10:26.640] or putting it in a WhatsApp group.
[10:26.640 -> 10:28.880] However you can share high performance,
[10:28.880 -> 10:31.000] it helps us to fulfill our purpose
[10:31.000 -> 10:32.760] of reaching more and more people.
[10:32.760 -> 10:34.400] So thank you so much for joining us
[10:34.400 -> 10:37.720] and we'll see you again soon for another episode
[10:37.720 -> 10:39.840] of the High Performance Podcast.
[10:39.840 -> 10:40.680] Bye now.
[10:41.740 -> 10:44.740] now.
