[01:00.560 -> 01:08.000] Tom and Sergio, live in Mexico, It's over to you chaps. Buenos dias, Chaco. Thank you for joining us on the Talking Bull podcast.
[01:08.000 -> 01:21.000] Just to kick things off, I just wanted to quickly ask you, it's a pretty big time of the year in Mexico right now with Day of the Dead festivities and it's been Halloween here in the UK as well.
[01:21.000 -> 01:25.160] I just want to check with you. Did you do any dressing up or did you
[01:25.160 -> 01:29.600] have the little ones in face pain or anything the last couple of days?
[01:29.600 -> 01:36.400] Yeah, we just have the other day, one with my family, the other day with the kids. It's
[01:36.400 -> 01:42.800] been a bit of a chilled out couple of days, let's put it that way, before the week starts,
[01:42.800 -> 01:48.960] you know. I think today is my final free day of the week. So I'm being able
[01:48.960 -> 01:55.840] to relax a bit, being able to train up and enjoying my final day. Well, mate, we really
[01:55.840 -> 02:02.080] appreciate you chatting to us on a day off. In the last couple of weeks, you've spoken about how
[02:02.080 -> 02:09.720] sort of enjoyable it's been to go back to some places in the world that we haven't got to go to, particularly last year. And we had
[02:09.720 -> 02:14.880] such an incredible crowd in Austin last week. How excited are you to be returning to Mexico
[02:14.880 -> 02:16.120] with F1 this week?
[02:16.120 -> 02:20.840] I'm super excited, so much looking forward into it. And you know, my country has been
[02:20.840 -> 02:27.680] so supportive of myself throughout my career. Not just now that I'm in Red Bull, you know, people tend to think like,
[02:27.720 -> 02:30.960] well, now you have some such a massive support and so on.
[02:31.400 -> 02:35.600] But to be honest, it's been like that since many years ago, you know,
[02:35.880 -> 02:40.320] and it's just great, you know, to finally have a team,
[02:40.320 -> 02:44.640] a car that we can, we can dream with the victory in our home country.
[02:44.760 -> 02:49.120] Yeah. You've, you've stood on the podium for two races in a row now, you're carrying a fair bit of
[02:49.120 -> 02:55.120] momentum into this weekend. Do you think this could be your best chance at a home race win?
[02:55.120 -> 02:58.560] Yeah, this is definitely my biggest chance, you know, to make it happen. So
[02:59.200 -> 03:07.400] then I prepare as well as I can and, you know, and yeah, we'll see what we are able to achieve.
[03:07.400 -> 03:11.080] And what sort of atmosphere are you expecting in Mexico City?
[03:11.080 -> 03:17.200] Not only will you be racing on the weekend, but we hear you've also got something planned
[03:17.200 -> 03:18.920] earlier in the week in Mexico City.
[03:18.920 -> 03:27.000] Yeah, that will be a bit chaotic, you know, driving the Red Bull car at Reforma, one of the most iconic streets
[03:27.000 -> 03:30.280] in the country, will be really special.
[03:30.280 -> 03:36.400] You know, it's something I've dreamed of for many years and yeah, to be able to bring my
[03:36.400 -> 03:40.200] Red Bull car to my country will be very special.
[03:40.200 -> 03:42.400] I just wanted to change topic quickly.
[03:42.400 -> 03:45.680] So we'll have your teammates, the rest of the
[03:45.680 -> 03:50.840] Red Bull crew visiting Mexico this week. They haven't been there for a little while. What
[03:50.840 -> 03:54.680] sort of local knowledge are you going to pass on to them in terms of what they need to be
[03:54.680 -> 03:57.440] eating while they're in Mexico City?
[03:57.440 -> 04:07.180] Oh, Mexico is one of the best places for eating, you know, we have great tacos around the country and we have great restaurants,
[04:07.180 -> 04:13.740] you know, and I'm actually planning to give an invitation to all the team to make sure
[04:13.740 -> 04:18.300] they try the good food and the good traditions that we have in our country.
[04:18.300 -> 04:20.500] I'm sure the guys will be looking forward to that.
[04:20.500 -> 04:25.760] And while we're on the topic of Mexico, I just wanted to also get your thoughts on,
[04:25.760 -> 04:29.720] you know, some things that you like to do away from the track.
[04:29.720 -> 04:34.520] And firstly, I wanted, I was kind of curious to know whether you actually watch much Mexican
[04:34.520 -> 04:35.520] TV.
[04:35.520 -> 04:36.520] I do.
[04:36.520 -> 04:37.520] I do.
[04:37.520 -> 04:40.040] I love watching Mexican TV, to be honest.
[04:40.040 -> 04:43.840] Even when I was in Austin, you know, and we had the Mexican channels, it makes me feel
[04:43.840 -> 04:52.160] close to my home. And yeah, I just enjoy watching it. You know, we have good programs, funny ones. And
[04:52.720 -> 04:56.080] I do enjoy watching the TV in Mexico.
[04:56.080 -> 04:58.800] So, you're more of a comedy guy than a drama guy?
[04:58.800 -> 05:04.720] Yeah, I'm more into it, you know. And with the Mexicans, we obviously have the novellas, you
[05:04.720 -> 05:07.040] know, which are a bit of the
[05:07.040 -> 05:11.520] drama but I'm not more into the comedy. Yeah they're world famous and I guess that's where
[05:11.520 -> 05:17.040] you get your prank side from as well so you've had a bit of a Mexican standoff with the team
[05:17.040 -> 05:26.680] so far this year. Where are we at? What's the state of play? Who's next? No, it's a 1-1 and I think we're pretty much done with it.
[05:26.680 -> 05:33.600] You know, it was the team did one, a good one and we paid them back.
[05:33.600 -> 05:37.040] But now I think we're good for now.
[05:37.040 -> 05:40.600] You know, there's too many people against me, you know, I'm on my own.
[05:40.600 -> 05:43.320] So I need to bring a couple of my Mexican friends in.
[05:43.320 -> 05:48.520] So for the listeners who aren't aware, can you just tell them exactly what it was that
[05:48.520 -> 05:51.360] you did to the team earlier in the year and why?
[05:51.360 -> 05:57.480] Well first I have to say what the team did to me, which they made me dress up in the
[05:57.480 -> 06:12.920] Austrian ladders and telling me that it was a Red Bull event so I thought that was pretty normal so they made me wear those, sold the whole team and even my trainer Chavi was
[06:12.920 -> 06:17.800] involved and he had to pay his part as well. But you got the team back right?
[06:17.800 -> 06:22.800] The next race, so I came back to Mexico and I told one of my friends to give me
[06:22.800 -> 06:25.180] some sticky powder.
[06:25.180 -> 06:28.900] So I placed it in all the marketing office throughout the weekend.
[06:28.900 -> 06:31.580] And they were all stitching through the silver.
[06:31.580 -> 06:34.620] I'm sure it wasn't a very enjoyable silver some weekend for them.
[06:34.620 -> 06:39.900] I think people have still been finding that itching powder in their coats like weeks later.
[06:39.900 -> 06:50.440] So I think you definitely, your revenge was swift. I'm also curious to know, you know, what sort of music you're into, because there's a massive
[06:50.440 -> 06:55.880] following in Mexico for the Red Bull, Batalla, Degas and the rapping.
[06:55.880 -> 07:00.040] And I'm just wondering if that's the sort of music you're into or what your musical
[07:00.040 -> 07:01.040] tastes are.
[07:01.040 -> 07:07.280] No, I'm more into the pop, into the Mexican, Mexican pop or Latin. I really
[07:07.280 -> 07:13.360] enjoy Latin. We have great Latin artists, great Mexicans. And I just don't get tired
[07:13.360 -> 07:20.640] of them, you know, because I love so much my music, the music they do. And I quite like
[07:20.640 -> 07:22.960] the music with good meaning.
[07:22.960 -> 07:25.980] So you're into the lyrics.
[07:25.980 -> 07:28.840] Another thing we know about you Cecco is you're into your golf.
[07:28.840 -> 07:33.960] I know sadly with the way the Formula One calendar works at the moment and the next
[07:33.960 -> 07:38.640] three weekends you're going to be busy racing but when you do finally get a bit of downtime
[07:38.640 -> 07:40.680] you quite enjoy playing golf don't you?
[07:40.680 -> 07:45.560] So I was wondering if you could pick any golf course in the world and
[07:45.560 -> 07:49.040] pick any golfer in the world to play with who you would choose?
[07:49.040 -> 07:54.560] Well, definitely Tiger. I'd like to play with Tiger and I'll go for Augusta.
[07:54.560 -> 08:01.040] Sure and get that green jacket. And just bringing it back to motorsports quickly, you know,
[08:01.040 -> 08:08.800] you're quite into your cars and stuff as well. I'm just wondering if you have like a dream car that you would like to drive for off-track?
[08:08.800 -> 08:10.680] Not really, you know.
[08:10.680 -> 08:16.640] I mean, I drive Formula 1 so there's nothing better than that.
[08:16.640 -> 08:20.400] So no, I think my dream car is definitely Formula 1.
[08:20.400 -> 08:21.400] Good answer.
[08:21.400 -> 08:27.280] You mentioned your trainer Xavie earlier and how he sometimes the result of
[08:27.280 -> 08:31.360] the pranks, but we've noticed this year that you actually you work with two different trainers.
[08:31.360 -> 08:35.520] So I was just wondering if you could tell us about that and the split between your two
[08:35.520 -> 08:37.400] trainers Xavier and Jose.
[08:37.400 -> 08:43.080] Yeah, well basically, you know, the Formula One calendar is very intense and it demands
[08:43.080 -> 08:46.240] a lot from yourself, you are away
[08:46.240 -> 08:52.240] from your families big time of the year. So it's very demanding for every individual.
[08:52.240 -> 08:58.320] So the way we do it is we try to give them time so when they're with me they're 100%
[08:58.320 -> 09:04.320] you know they're not missing families, they're not homesick and Xavi as well getting a bit
[09:04.320 -> 09:06.640] older. It's a bit harder for him to do the
[09:06.640 -> 09:11.440] whole the whole season you know so it works pretty well with Jose being the younger one
[09:12.320 -> 09:16.720] fresher one they do quite a good mix. Yeah they complement each other nicely and I guess
[09:17.440 -> 09:22.800] moving into next year where the calendar is going to be even more demanding we might actually see
[09:22.800 -> 09:29.920] more of that sort of setup for F1 drivers and their teams. I mean, I've probably answered this myself already by touching on how
[09:29.920 -> 09:35.440] busy the F1 calendar is. And I guess maybe you don't have have time for this, but we saw that
[09:35.440 -> 09:41.120] Max got himself two kittens this year. And I was just wondering if you have any pets or you and
[09:41.120 -> 09:47.800] your family have any pets? Yeah, we got three dogs. I'm more of a dog style.
[09:47.800 -> 09:54.320] And then when I'm away there with my mom, my mom next lives next to like three blocks
[09:54.320 -> 09:55.480] from my home.
[09:55.480 -> 09:57.780] So it's pretty easy.
[09:57.780 -> 09:58.780] And she loves dogs.
[09:58.780 -> 10:02.420] So luckily I have someone that can look after the dog.
[10:02.420 -> 10:06.040] And speaking of Max, quick question for you here.
[10:06.040 -> 10:12.040] What is the last text message that Max sent you and is it safe for the podcast?
[10:12.040 -> 10:19.160] I think the last time we sent text to each other was when he had his crash in Silverstone,
[10:19.160 -> 10:24.160] if I remember correctly, when I sent him a note saying that, I mean, the most important
[10:24.160 -> 10:26.480] was that he was okay because it was a pretty good big shot.
[10:27.120 -> 10:31.760] He replied that he was a bit shaky, but he was fine.
[10:31.760 -> 10:35.200] And yeah, looking forward to be back racing.
[10:35.200 -> 10:41.200] So, I mean, we see each other every weekend, you know, so we don't speak much.
[10:41.200 -> 10:45.940] I think Max has, it's a guy that has his life out of the sport, similar to mine.
[10:45.940 -> 10:49.340] So we very rarely speak on the phone.
[10:49.340 -> 10:54.220] I just want to ask you as well, you know, you were big into racing when you grew up.
[10:54.220 -> 10:58.620] I saw some pictures of you as a youngster, karting the other day.
[10:58.620 -> 11:03.060] And it made me think like, who was your sort of F1 idol when you were growing up?
[11:03.060 -> 11:07.040] You know, did you have any posters hanging on your wall when you were a youngster?
[11:07.040 -> 11:14.040] No, to be honest, I never thought like Formula 1 was going to be possible, you know, because
[11:14.040 -> 11:16.320] it was going to be a big, a massive challenge.
[11:16.320 -> 11:19.680] For Mexico, we never had Mexican drivers in Formula 1.
[11:19.680 -> 11:24.920] So it was something like really far, far away, you know, like for us it was more IndyCar,
[11:24.920 -> 11:25.160] you know, which is closer. So more IndyCar, you know,
[11:25.160 -> 11:26.160] which is closer.
[11:26.160 -> 11:30.720] So Formula One, yeah, I did follow it. I was a massive fan, but I never thought I was going
[11:30.720 -> 11:36.760] to have the opportunity first to come to Europe and secondly to make it into Formula One.
[11:36.760 -> 11:42.360] So I really liked Montoya at the time, you know, because he was a Latin driver, you know,
[11:42.360 -> 11:45.520] like he had this Latin character.
[11:45.920 -> 11:46.920] I really liked him.
[11:47.280 -> 11:50.720] I admired Alonso as well when he won his title.
[11:51.280 -> 11:55.200] Fernando was like, yeah, like the biggest, the biggest one.
[11:55.200 -> 11:56.640] He's Spanish as well.
[11:56.640 -> 11:58.560] So I kind of admire him a lot.
[11:58.880 -> 11:59.240] Yeah.
[11:59.600 -> 12:02.680] And you touched on it there, the Latino following.
[12:02.680 -> 12:06.960] I wanted to get your thoughts on the Miami Grand Prix next year because I guess in a
[12:06.960 -> 12:12.240] way it's going to sort of feel like you have two home Grands Prix next year with Mexico
[12:12.240 -> 12:13.320] and Miami.
[12:13.320 -> 12:15.320] How much are you looking forward to that?
[12:15.320 -> 12:16.320] Massively.
[12:16.320 -> 12:19.040] I mean with Mexico, still Miami.
[12:19.040 -> 12:21.920] It's going to be three home races.
[12:21.920 -> 12:24.640] I have to make sure that I do good.
[12:24.640 -> 12:26.680] Good three helmets, you know,
[12:26.680 -> 12:32.160] for each race. Yeah, it's gonna be crazy. I mean, racing in Miami, I have a lot of friends
[12:32.160 -> 12:37.520] there actually. And I go, I used to go there often before I got married. It was always
[12:37.520 -> 12:38.520] a good time.
[12:38.520 -> 12:44.440] And speaking of the helmets, can we expect anything, anything exciting for Mexico this
[12:44.440 -> 12:53.360] year? Yeah, of course. Always trying to represent my cultures and represent the country well.
[12:53.360 -> 12:56.160] Wow, I look forward to seeing that on the track this weekend.
[12:56.160 -> 13:01.760] So Chaco, I think you're probably sick of hearing from me, so let's throw it to
[13:01.760 -> 13:07.080] someone far more important. We've got a bunch of questions in from, um, our most loyal fans.
[13:07.520 -> 13:11.360] Um, these guys have all signed up to the Red Bull racing paddock, which is our
[13:11.360 -> 13:15.720] completely free loyalty program that we have, uh, here at rebel racing.
[13:15.720 -> 13:19.080] And we've got a bunch of questions that have been submitted just for you.
[13:19.360 -> 13:23.200] So I'll, I'll run you through a few of these really quickly just to, just to wrap up.
[13:23.700 -> 13:30.560] So the first one is from Paula and she wants to ask you what is the best part of racing
[13:30.560 -> 13:35.520] in your home country? Just see the happiness you give to the people, how
[13:35.520 -> 13:40.560] intense, how happy they are supporting you. That's the most important to me. Like
[13:40.560 -> 13:47.680] see the joy of the kids, of the grandfathers, of the young generations, old generations.
[13:47.680 -> 13:52.400] Like, literally to see your whole country behind you on track and off track.
[13:52.400 -> 13:58.000] Wow, it's something that you really have to experience that to understand what it's like.
[13:58.000 -> 13:59.000] Nice.
[13:59.000 -> 14:04.080] And so the next one we have here is from Stéhane and he wants to know how you celebrate a win
[14:04.080 -> 14:05.040] or a good result.
[14:05.040 -> 14:08.320] Depends on which part of the world I am and what's next, you know, because
[14:10.720 -> 14:14.880] we tend to win a race but then it's about the next one, you know, it's how we live.
[14:14.880 -> 14:20.800] And sometimes there's not even time to celebrate a win because you have to start training the
[14:20.800 -> 14:30.200] morning after and then go to a different continent. But look, if I win Mexico, I'm sure there will be plenty of time to celebrate the race.
[14:30.200 -> 14:32.880] Well, we're all hoping for that.
[14:32.880 -> 14:38.420] The next one we have is from Chito and Chito wants to know if you could listen to music
[14:38.420 -> 14:42.400] while you were racing, what would be on your playlist?
[14:42.400 -> 14:46.880] There will be the pop that I always listen to.
[14:46.880 -> 14:52.580] And the next one is from Ambra and Ambra wants to know what do you do to keep yourself focused
[14:52.580 -> 14:55.000] before the start of a race?
[14:55.000 -> 15:02.120] We have our normal routine which is training the reactions, the reaction times with lights,
[15:02.120 -> 15:06.580] with different exercises and then we while talking with the engineers.
[15:06.580 -> 15:11.420] And the next one is from Sophie and Sophie wants to know where you find the inspiration
[15:11.420 -> 15:12.740] for your helmet designs.
[15:12.740 -> 15:14.940] We were just talking about that earlier.
[15:14.940 -> 15:19.660] I had a pretty good designer and he does a pretty good job.
[15:19.660 -> 15:27.120] But I also think, like, for example, for Mexico, I would want to put my colors because all what my helmet
[15:27.120 -> 15:33.080] is about is to try to make sure it represents my country, well, my cultures.
[15:33.080 -> 15:37.600] It's all about that, you know, the final design, it really doesn't really matter to me.
[15:37.600 -> 15:46.320] It's more about making sure that it carries on all the Mexican traditions, cultures and all of that.
[15:46.320 -> 15:47.800] Nice, last couple here.
[15:47.800 -> 15:53.040] We've got the next one from Sam Marine and they want to know if you could choose four
[15:53.040 -> 15:58.280] other drivers from the current grid to be in your football team, who would it be?
[15:58.280 -> 16:03.680] I'll choose Sainz, I'll choose Fernando.
[16:03.680 -> 16:04.680] Who else please?
[16:04.680 -> 16:06.880] I mean, it's been such a long time that we don't play
[16:06.880 -> 16:13.680] that now with the youngsters, I hardly know them, how good they are on the field. I think Max also
[16:13.680 -> 16:20.960] likes football. Mick or Sepp. I play football with Sepp. Yeah, we saw those guys playing in a
[16:20.960 -> 16:29.040] red fog or a rain delay earlier this year, I think We used to play you know like many years ago, like every Wednesday we used to have a match
[16:29.040 -> 16:31.360] and it was really enjoyable.
[16:31.360 -> 16:32.360] It's over now.
[16:32.360 -> 16:37.280] And last couple, this one's from Jordan and they want to know what is the number one thing
[16:37.280 -> 16:42.760] on your bucket list that you want to do in your lifetime that's not related to racing?
[16:42.760 -> 16:48.600] Travel the world and obviously in a very difficult, I know pretty much the whole world by now, but
[16:49.120 -> 16:53.520] travel the world differently, you know, with, with family, with friends, with my
[16:53.520 -> 16:58.920] wife, you know, going to places I've never been in a relaxed way, just being
[16:58.920 -> 17:08.320] normally into a place, go to normal places, not have to hide all the time and spend it in your room and
[17:08.320 -> 17:09.320] so on.
[17:09.320 -> 17:14.720] You know, that's what I'm looking forward to most once my chapter in Formula 1 is finished.
[17:14.720 -> 17:18.240] I like to take my time to go to different places around the world.
[17:18.240 -> 17:22.400] Are there any countries in particular that are really high on your list where you'd love
[17:22.400 -> 17:24.680] to go and spend some time?
[17:24.680 -> 17:25.120] Africa. Africa is one that I really high on your list where you'd love to go and spend some time?
[17:32.880 -> 17:41.760] Africa. Africa is one that I really look forward. Even Mexico, to know it well. You know, we have such like big places here that I really want to go. Japan, I'm a big lover of Japan.
[17:42.320 -> 17:44.800] Yeah, I mean, so many places out there.
[17:44.960 -> 17:51.120] big lover of Japan. Yeah, I mean so many places out there. It's a big world, yeah. And last one now is from Rasmus and he just wants to know if you
[17:51.120 -> 17:56.400] can hear fans screaming inside the car. I guess it's a pretty relevant one coming through
[17:56.400 -> 18:00.480] the Forza Solar. Can you hear the fans?
[18:00.480 -> 18:04.280] When I go through Forza Solar with this low engines, you know, our engines are not so
[18:04.280 -> 18:09.840] loud anymore and you go on an in-lap or something and you pay attention into it, you do hear them.
[18:09.840 -> 18:14.720] I mean, they're so loud and that part of the circuit is pretty loud.
[18:14.720 -> 18:19.120] It's incredible. We can't wait to see that on Sunday at the Mexico Grand Prix.
[18:19.920 -> 18:23.520] Want to wish you all the best of luck for that and just thank you so much for your time and
[18:23.520 -> 18:28.800] for joining us on Talking Bull this week. Thank you man. Cheers, bye bye. Thanks so much for coming
