[00:00.000 -> 00:03.000] Hi there, this is Christian Horner.
[00:03.000 -> 00:06.000] You've won the Austrian Grand Prix!
[00:06.000 -> 00:08.000] Hi guys, it's Pierre.
[00:08.000 -> 00:12.000] Hi, I'm Max Verstappen and you're listening to the Aston Martin Red Bull Racing Podcast.
[00:12.000 -> 00:15.000] Oh, this feels good!
[00:16.000 -> 00:21.000] Yes, this is Talking Bull, the Aston Martin Red Bull Racing Podcast.
[00:21.000 -> 00:26.480] We're going to be taking you behind the scenes of the track, in the paddock and at the factory throughout the year, giving you full
[00:26.480 -> 00:31.120] access to the team. We're back for 2019 and all is set to be one of our biggest
[00:31.120 -> 00:36.940] racing years to date. New car, new drivers, new rules and a brand new season.
[00:36.940 -> 00:42.480] Albert Park will open 2019 in style down under on March the 17th, providing
[00:42.480 -> 00:45.940] excitement aplenty ahead of a brand new F1 season and
[00:45.940 -> 00:48.080] the start of a 10-month-long battle.
[00:48.080 -> 00:52.600] Pierre will be making his team debut following his promotion from our sister team Toro Rosso
[00:52.600 -> 00:57.540] in our brand new Honda Power car alongside our very own Max Verstappen, who begins his
[00:57.540 -> 01:01.040] fifth season in F1 at just 21 years of age.
[01:01.040 -> 01:04.560] On this edition of Talking Bull, we've got an exclusive season preview with our team
[01:04.560 -> 01:07.840] principal Christian Horner, we give you an insight into what it
[01:07.840 -> 01:11.960] takes to be a fuel specialist in a Formula One team and we have a play of
[01:11.960 -> 01:15.640] the brand new Floorsong 2. First up though we wanted you to hear from the
[01:15.640 -> 01:19.600] drivers themselves with no one else getting in the way and the best way for
[01:19.600 -> 01:24.000] them to do that is to interview each other with some driver on driver action.
[01:24.000 -> 01:27.400] I warn you there may be a little bit of singing in this.
[01:27.400 -> 01:28.400] Take it away, boys.
[01:29.400 -> 01:30.400] Hello.
[01:30.400 -> 01:31.400] Who the f*** are you?
[01:32.400 -> 01:34.400] I'm curiously and you?
[01:34.400 -> 01:36.400] Jean-Marie...
[01:36.400 -> 01:37.400] Verstappen.
[01:37.400 -> 01:40.400] Jean-Marie Verstappen. New name.
[01:40.400 -> 01:41.400] Who's start?
[01:41.400 -> 01:42.400] I'm start.
[01:42.400 -> 01:46.060] How have you kept sharp over the winter break? Quite a bit
[01:46.060 -> 01:51.320] of sim racing actually. Well since I was back home so in December until now
[01:51.320 -> 01:55.400] actually a lot of sim racing. Okay. And training. Which game? iRacing.
[01:55.400 -> 02:01.720] On my side yeah training basically I went a bit in the US to train
[02:01.720 -> 02:05.840] there with my trainer. You went all over the place the place, huh? Yeah, I traveled quite a bit.
[02:05.840 -> 02:09.000] I mean, I took some time off with my family back in France
[02:09.000 -> 02:12.480] and then after that I went in US to the training center,
[02:12.480 -> 02:14.440] Red Bull training center in Santa Monica
[02:14.440 -> 02:16.280] and this was perfect.
[02:16.280 -> 02:18.680] And then a cheeky race as well.
[02:18.680 -> 02:21.480] Yeah, cheeky race in Mexico with the race of champion.
[02:21.480 -> 02:22.640] This was super cool actually.
[02:22.640 -> 02:24.760] So, at least I got to drive something
[02:24.760 -> 02:25.240] and yeah, it's relaxed even, but still some competition. Mexico with the race of champion this was super cool actually so at least I got to drive something and
[02:30.440 -> 02:36.520] And yeah, it's relaxed even but still some competitions. You still want to do the best exactly So now this was cool. So Pierre, does the build-up to this season feel different with all the changes? On my side
[02:36.520 -> 02:40.480] It was a lot different of course because yeah, it's a big step. No more pasta
[02:41.240 -> 02:47.000] Exactly different culture different, different team, different people, families. So we
[02:47.000 -> 02:51.400] started also last year in Italy, now in England with Red Bull and of course
[02:51.400 -> 02:59.620] everything is a bit more into details, the factory is bigger, so I'm super
[02:59.620 -> 03:04.540] excited also that the expectations and targets will be different. So I'm really
[03:04.540 -> 03:06.000] really excited for the season.
[03:06.000 -> 03:10.000] Also, a really fast teammate, which is going to be exciting.
[03:10.000 -> 03:14.000] So, only my second year in Formula 1, but a super good time at the moment.
[03:14.000 -> 03:16.000] I can only agree.
[03:17.000 -> 03:20.000] For me, it doesn't really change a lot, if you want to know.
[03:21.000 -> 03:23.000] How many languages can you speak?
[03:23.000 -> 03:26.400] Well, let's say fluent, I guess it's Dutch, English and German.
[03:26.400 -> 03:28.400] German, you speak German like fluent.
[03:28.400 -> 03:30.400] I'll teach you a little bit of German.
[03:30.400 -> 03:31.400] I need to know that.
[03:31.400 -> 03:32.400] But the bad words.
[03:32.400 -> 03:34.400] Of course, always easier to remember.
[03:34.400 -> 03:35.400] You?
[03:35.400 -> 03:38.400] French, Italian, English, Japanese.
[03:38.400 -> 03:40.400] You like Japanese?
[03:40.400 -> 03:43.400] Well, okay, no, maybe I stop.
[03:43.400 -> 03:45.360] Only English, English, French.
[03:45.360 -> 03:46.360] You speak French?
[03:46.360 -> 03:47.360] Yeah, a bit, sometimes.
[03:47.360 -> 03:48.360] Just a little bit.
[03:48.360 -> 03:51.160] And, yeah, Italian I understand.
[03:51.160 -> 03:54.680] I can speak as well, but still need to practice.
[03:54.680 -> 03:57.200] And Spanish I used to speak, but lost it.
[03:57.200 -> 03:58.200] Yeah, exactly.
[03:58.200 -> 04:00.520] Who is the better FIFA player?
[04:00.520 -> 04:02.240] You know, this can get...
[04:02.240 -> 04:03.240] I remember.
[04:03.240 -> 04:04.240] Where is the PlayStation?
[04:04.240 -> 04:05.160] We need to find out is the PlayStation we need to
[04:09.000 -> 04:09.600] Find out on the PlayStation right now. You remember last year's preseason, right?
[04:13.240 -> 04:16.220] Yeah, I even well I was sitting on the couch and I was like yeah You don't need to train and then you looked on your watch. You're like oh
[04:16.720 -> 04:18.720] I'm like
[04:18.720 -> 04:24.020] Playing so so much right now. I remember yeah, I think I think we need to find out
[04:24.020 -> 04:29.000] You will probably beat me quite big time. I need to practice a bit because I didn't play for a while.
[04:29.000 -> 04:30.000] Okay, that's good.
[04:30.000 -> 04:33.000] What is your earliest memory of racing each other?
[04:33.000 -> 04:38.000] You know what I'm going to say, right? You know what I'm going to say. 2010, La Conca.
[04:41.000 -> 04:43.000] You ****!
[04:50.000 -> 04:55.000] So the story was, I think I qualified 7th and Pierre 2nd. So I had to start every heat, 6 heats on Friday and Saturday behind Pierre.
[04:55.000 -> 05:00.000] How many times did I push Pierre on the track in the first corner?
[05:00.000 -> 05:03.000] Maybe 3 or 4 out of 6.
[05:04.000 -> 05:09.160] I remember I was arriving turn 1 with my both feet in the air because Max was pushing
[05:09.160 -> 05:10.160] me so much.
[05:10.160 -> 05:13.520] But I always got pushed from behind as well.
[05:13.520 -> 05:17.760] I remember that because in the warm-up lap they were telling me, Mario go too fast, you
[05:17.760 -> 05:18.760] go too fast.
[05:18.760 -> 05:23.680] And I told them I don't even put my foot on the throttle, they are pushing me so much.
[05:23.680 -> 05:25.160] And then they were like really complaining. So at some point I remember in a warm-up lap, I just put like my both foot on the throttle, pushing me so much. And then they were really complaining,
[05:25.160 -> 05:27.800] so at some point I remember in a warm-up lap,
[05:27.800 -> 05:29.840] I just put my both feet in the air,
[05:29.840 -> 05:31.320] just to show them I don't do anything,
[05:31.320 -> 05:34.080] and I was going almost at 50 kph.
[05:34.080 -> 05:36.040] And I was just doing this, like my head,
[05:36.040 -> 05:37.200] but I was not really getting pushed,
[05:37.200 -> 05:38.040] but I was like.
[05:38.040 -> 05:40.120] But this is actually my first memory as well,
[05:40.120 -> 05:43.000] like really fighting each other.
[05:43.000 -> 05:43.900] Long time ago now.
[05:43.900 -> 05:45.920] Do you think the changes to the regulations
[05:45.920 -> 05:48.920] will actually make racing closer in 2019?
[05:48.920 -> 05:51.040] To be honest, I don't think so.
[05:51.040 -> 05:54.400] I mean, not racing closer in a way that the full park,
[05:54.400 -> 05:56.200] I don't really think will be closer,
[05:56.200 -> 05:59.560] but after in terms of following each other,
[05:59.560 -> 06:01.920] maybe the racing, if it's gonna get better,
[06:01.920 -> 06:02.760] this I don't know.
[06:02.760 -> 06:03.960] I guess time will tell.
[06:03.960 -> 06:07.200] Exactly, some say yes, some others say no, so I think before we actually get on track it's gonna get better, I don't know. I guess time will tell. Some say yes, some others say no.
[06:07.200 -> 06:09.400] I think before we actually get on track it's...
[06:09.400 -> 06:12.680] Yeah, I think also the problem is with so much downforce it's always gonna be difficult
[06:12.680 -> 06:13.680] to follow.
[06:13.680 -> 06:15.640] It should be slightly less but in the end it's gonna be...
[06:15.640 -> 06:22.120] I saw a picture of like 2008 and now, the cars, the difference, it's so much longer
[06:22.120 -> 06:23.120] and wider.
[06:23.120 -> 06:26.000] I think 2008 looks like a little toy car.
[06:26.000 -> 06:31.000] So I guess going a bit back to that as well, it just creates a lot less disturbance from the car.
[06:31.000 -> 06:35.000] Who will win a go-kart race between Pierre's grandma and Mike's mom?
[06:35.000 -> 06:38.000] Why my mom and his grandma?
[06:38.000 -> 06:40.000] Because my grandma was a karting champion.
[06:40.000 -> 06:41.000] Oh really?
[06:41.000 -> 06:42.000] Yeah?
[06:42.000 -> 06:43.000] I didn't know.
[06:43.000 -> 06:47.520] It used to be in the 60s or 65s. From your dad's side or your mom's side?
[06:47.520 -> 06:54.720] My dad's side. Yeah. Okay. But she was like a sort of regional from my region basically.
[06:54.720 -> 06:59.920] Okay. So it wasn't like a national or international level. Okay well that's cool. Probably your mom
[06:59.920 -> 07:06.920] would be. Well yeah because she's younger as well now. Did your color coordinate your helmet
[07:06.920 -> 07:11.360] designs this year? Actually yeah. You texted me like for which color I was
[07:11.360 -> 07:15.200] going and yeah I think it's good. I wanted to make sure that we don't go with the
[07:15.200 -> 07:20.440] same one so I had something in mind. I remember the first race I did with Red Bull
[07:20.440 -> 07:24.880] I had like the same top as Daniel because we both had like light blue. Yeah.
[07:24.880 -> 07:28.680] It's impossible to see the difference. Yeah exactly. The Red Bull is
[07:28.680 -> 07:33.720] pretty big on the side so if after you have the main like first color on the
[07:33.720 -> 07:36.320] helmet it's pretty tough. I think it worked out well. Yeah it worked out well.
[07:36.320 -> 07:42.000] What are you most excited about this year to work with me? Most excited, most
[07:42.000 -> 07:46.400] excited. Just looking forward to the you you know, the HOMNAD partnership to be honest.
[07:46.400 -> 07:49.480] To see how far we can get this season already.
[07:49.480 -> 07:52.920] If we're going to be really competitive.
[07:52.920 -> 07:54.800] So yeah, definitely looking forward to that.
[07:54.800 -> 07:55.800] You?
[07:55.800 -> 07:57.080] The same thing basically for me.
[07:57.080 -> 08:01.600] For sure it's going to be really different to last year in terms of overall performance,
[08:01.600 -> 08:04.680] fighting and hopefully it will be competitive.
[08:04.680 -> 08:06.960] As competitive as you were last year or even more.
[08:06.960 -> 08:13.120] So I think we'll find out at the beginning of the season, but I know for sure I'm super excited to be
[08:13.120 -> 08:18.800] with Red Bull, to be with you and yeah, it's a big step in my career.
[08:18.800 -> 08:20.160] It's a great time.
[08:20.160 -> 08:23.360] Are you impressed by the commitment our Honda colleagues have shown?
[08:23.360 -> 08:27.280] So far, yes, but I had the chance to work with them already the last two years
[08:27.280 -> 08:32.800] in Super Formula, in Japan and then in Wistow also, so I know I've always said it,
[08:32.800 -> 08:36.800] but for me, Japanese are the most committed and dedicated people you can work with.
[08:38.240 -> 08:43.760] Really, when they set the target, they will work days and nights until they achieve it.
[08:43.760 -> 08:49.000] So I think they are really pushing, so hopefully we'll get the reward pretty soon.
[08:49.000 -> 08:52.000] Yeah, I'm looking forward to see it.
[08:53.000 -> 08:56.000] Are you impressed with them? Do you see big changes with Renault?
[08:56.000 -> 09:04.000] Well, so far I haven't really spoken a lot to them yet, but the stories I hear already in the factory and stuff, it's completely different.
[09:04.000 -> 09:05.520] In a positive way.
[09:05.520 -> 09:07.160] Who is your favourite Red Bull athlete?
[09:07.160 -> 09:08.640] Are we considered athletes?
[09:10.640 -> 09:12.160] Careful to...
[09:12.160 -> 09:14.760] Favourite? Actually, that's a very good question.
[09:14.760 -> 09:19.160] I do like motocross to see Jeffrey Hellings winning so many races.
[09:19.160 -> 09:20.560] I mean, that's really impressive.
[09:20.560 -> 09:22.920] Yeah, I would go with Neymar.
[09:22.920 -> 09:25.200] Neymar, I reallyar. I really like soccer.
[09:25.200 -> 09:28.640] He's also a big fan of PSG.
[09:28.640 -> 09:31.760] But you really go flat when you're on the stadium. When they score a goal
[09:31.760 -> 09:34.880] you're like screaming. You're like a football hooligan in the stadium.
[09:34.880 -> 09:39.040] I'm really into it. French fries or pomfrites?
[09:39.040 -> 09:44.720] French fries. You? I never say pomfrites.
[09:44.720 -> 09:45.920] I always say either. I say frites. I don't say pomfrit. I always say either.
[09:45.920 -> 09:47.600] I say Frit.
[09:47.600 -> 09:49.480] I don't say Pomfrit actually.
[09:49.480 -> 09:50.480] You say Frit.
[09:50.480 -> 09:53.120] Either Frit or French fries.
[09:53.120 -> 09:54.640] What's your favorite go-karting track?
[09:54.640 -> 09:57.600] I thought it was the most exciting one for the last.
[09:57.600 -> 09:58.600] Alcaniz.
[09:58.600 -> 09:59.600] Have you ever driven it?
[09:59.600 -> 10:00.600] No, actually.
[10:00.600 -> 10:01.600] It's really good.
[10:01.600 -> 10:02.600] No, never been there.
[10:02.600 -> 10:04.080] That is one of my favorites.
[10:04.080 -> 10:07.000] I think also where you have won important races,
[10:07.000 -> 10:09.160] they become, like Varenne for me as well,
[10:09.160 -> 10:10.480] will always be something special
[10:10.480 -> 10:12.080] because I won the world championship.
[10:12.080 -> 10:14.240] But also the track is actually really cool.
[10:14.240 -> 10:15.640] It's fast, but...
[10:15.640 -> 10:16.840] Because you're slipstreaming a lot.
[10:16.840 -> 10:17.760] All the time.
[10:17.760 -> 10:19.120] And you have to be really fluent,
[10:19.120 -> 10:20.360] like you cannot slide too much
[10:20.360 -> 10:22.960] because you lose the speed on the long straights.
[10:22.960 -> 10:29.400] But yeah, for me, Alkankanis with the banking and stuff like there are two corners where you go first off
[10:29.400 -> 10:34.400] camber and then it changes into a camber. Yeah it's so good. I think it's really
[10:34.400 -> 10:39.920] related to the results you had so the same for me like Sarno is a special
[10:39.920 -> 10:45.200] one that one I really love but also where I got my first big result in the World Championship.
[10:45.200 -> 10:50.800] Yeah, but you remember with Sirotkin, Sirotkin was there, Denis, Carlos.
[10:50.800 -> 10:51.800] We were all.
[10:51.800 -> 10:54.200] Oh no, that was the year before me.
[10:54.200 -> 10:56.000] That was the year before me, yeah.
[10:56.000 -> 10:57.600] You was in...
[10:57.600 -> 11:00.600] It was the World Championship race we had there, you remember?
[11:00.600 -> 11:01.400] Charles won it.
[11:01.400 -> 11:04.400] Yeah, but me I was already, I left, this was 2011.
[11:04.400 -> 11:10.680] I remember you got angry to me in the pre-final I think it was because you got overtaken and
[11:10.680 -> 11:14.600] then I went with the guy and then on the exit I just pushed you into the grass.
[11:14.600 -> 11:16.200] So you did in Sarno?
[11:16.200 -> 11:20.000] I remember it was in Sarno, I remember exactly the corner actually.
[11:20.000 -> 11:23.120] The left-hand hairpin on the hairpin.
[11:23.120 -> 11:24.720] I remember that.
[11:24.720 -> 11:27.000] Thanks for listening guys, let's catchpin on the air. I remember that. Thanks for listening, guys. Let's catch up on the race.
[11:27.000 -> 11:30.000] Thank you for hearing our stories. I hope you liked it.
[11:30.000 -> 11:31.000] And hopefully many more to come.
[11:31.000 -> 11:35.000] Goodbye, my lover. Goodbye, my friend.
[11:36.000 -> 11:37.000] This guy.
[11:37.000 -> 11:38.000] Bye.
[11:38.000 -> 11:40.000] Incredible singing there, boys. James Blunt would be proud.
[11:40.000 -> 11:44.000] Now, the grid has had a massive shake-up for 2019,
[11:44.000 -> 11:48.360] which means that there'll be a fascinating start to the season as everyone gets the grip with
[11:48.360 -> 11:51.880] the new challenges. Tom caught up with our team principal Christian Horner at
[11:51.880 -> 11:56.040] the factory to get some thoughts on the season ahead. It's been a pretty busy
[11:56.040 -> 11:59.520] winter for everyone here at the factory especially with the new regulation
[11:59.520 -> 12:04.000] changes and a new power unit supplier. How would you describe the atmosphere as
[12:04.000 -> 12:08.780] we embark on sort of a new chapter? The atmosphere is very upbeat throughout the factory
[12:08.780 -> 12:13.700] there's a real sense of anticipation and excitement. It's the first time we've
[12:13.700 -> 12:18.840] had a new engine partner for you know for over 12 years so something new it's
[12:18.840 -> 12:23.320] something different, something quite exciting so yeah there's
[12:23.320 -> 12:25.840] definitely an upbeat tempo in the factory.
[12:25.840 -> 12:28.240] And how did Adrian and the design team respond
[12:28.240 -> 12:30.800] to working with a new power unit supplier?
[12:30.800 -> 12:32.640] Is there a sort of sense of renewed energy
[12:32.640 -> 12:34.040] in the design team as well?
[12:34.040 -> 12:38.680] Yeah, it's definitely injected some definite enthusiasm.
[12:38.680 -> 12:41.440] Of course, engineers are only ever hungry for horsepower,
[12:41.440 -> 12:44.360] and that's what very much motivates Adrian.
[12:44.360 -> 12:45.560] So he's
[12:45.560 -> 12:50.260] really encouraged by the progress that Honda are making and you know that's
[12:50.260 -> 12:55.320] exciting for you know not just this year but future years. When do you sort of
[12:55.320 -> 12:59.560] expect to see how competitive the RB15 might be? You know is it during testing
[12:59.560 -> 13:03.360] or might it take a little bit longer? You get snapshots during the testing but
[13:03.360 -> 13:08.160] you never know what fuel loads and power settings people are running so it really
[13:08.160 -> 13:13.100] will take probably two or three races to get a clear indication of you know what
[13:13.100 -> 13:16.680] the pecking order is. Quite hard to do at the start of the season but are there
[13:16.680 -> 13:20.080] any sort of specific goals that have been set for this year? To close the gap
[13:20.080 -> 13:25.640] from where we were last year so you know last year at circuits that suited the chassis that were power limited we were you know we were last year. So you know last year at circuits that suited the
[13:25.640 -> 13:29.720] chassis that were power limited we were you know we were very competitive
[13:29.720 -> 13:33.720] we managed to win four races. This year we'd like to see a more consistent
[13:33.720 -> 13:38.720] performance across tracks that sometimes we feared you know like Monza and Bahrain
[13:38.720 -> 13:43.600] and and circuits like Azerbaijan with long straights you know etc. So you
[13:43.600 -> 13:48.400] know definitely a more consistently competitive fielding of both cars.
[13:48.400 -> 13:53.000] How does it feel having a driver line-up that has a combined age that is less than your own?
[13:53.000 -> 13:56.200] And have the drivers reminded you of that at all?
[13:56.200 -> 13:58.400] Well, thank you for reminding me of that.
[13:58.400 -> 14:04.200] Yeah, it's a first ever for me. It wasn't long ago before the drivers that we had here were older than me.
[14:04.200 -> 14:08.040] So, yeah, it's, look, you
[14:08.040 -> 14:13.200] don't judge people by their age, it's about what they do on track and how they conduct
[14:13.200 -> 14:18.480] themselves. So I'm not worried about the relative youth of our drivers, they've both got a lot
[14:18.480 -> 14:23.760] of experience, they both know what's expected and yeah, interesting that they were both
[14:23.760 -> 14:26.280] born at the end of the 1990s
[14:26.280 -> 14:29.160] So yeah, they are one of the youngest driving parents on the grid
[14:29.320 -> 14:32.640] do you think you'll take a slightly different approach for them at all or
[14:33.360 -> 14:37.140] Will you leave the keeping them in check up to dr. Marque?
[14:37.800 -> 14:42.280] No, I look I should manage them exactly the same way I manage the other drivers in the team. So
[14:43.000 -> 14:46.080] You know nothing changes, nothing changes in that respect.
[14:46.080 -> 14:50.880] I don't think I'll be playing FIFA football games with them or that kind of stuff but
[14:50.880 -> 14:54.840] they know what's expected from them, they know how we operate here. That's already been
[14:54.840 -> 14:58.440] clear because they've both been members of the junior team obviously before they arrived
[14:58.440 -> 14:59.440] in Formula 1.
[14:59.440 -> 15:04.240] And just quickly, your thoughts on the 2019 regulation changes? It's been a lot said but
[15:04.240 -> 15:06.920] how do you think they might affect the racing?
[15:06.920 -> 15:13.740] You know, jury's out, we'll see what effect they have, I think it'll be minimal, because
[15:13.740 -> 15:18.440] you can't take these things in isolation, but again, it's a big characteristic change
[15:18.440 -> 15:23.780] to the car, so it'll be interesting to see what interpretations different teams have
[15:23.780 -> 15:25.400] made as the cars turn
[15:25.400 -> 15:27.360] out for testing over the next couple of weeks.
[15:27.360 -> 15:32.560] Max and Pierre are being asked a lot about what they've learnt during their time in F1.
[15:32.560 -> 15:36.220] You yourself now have spent 15 years leading the team.
[15:36.220 -> 15:39.840] Can you tell us any sort of key lessons that you've learnt over this time in F1?
[15:39.840 -> 15:42.760] You're learning every day.
[15:42.760 -> 15:45.960] Every day is different and you just try and use the experience that you have.
[15:45.960 -> 15:53.760] So there's been a lot of change in Formula 1 since I first arrived here and it's continually
[15:53.760 -> 16:00.080] evolving and you've got to move with it and be flexible and versatile and open-minded,
[16:00.080 -> 16:01.880] you know, they're the key attributes.
[16:01.880 -> 16:06.520] And obviously us and all of our listeners know you as Christian Horner, the team principal,
[16:06.520 -> 16:08.360] but is there something that you can tell us
[16:08.360 -> 16:10.160] about your life away from the office?
[16:10.160 -> 16:11.240] What could I tell you?
[16:12.240 -> 16:14.400] I don't know, I have four goats
[16:16.320 -> 16:18.760] and three donkeys if that is something of interest,
[16:18.760 -> 16:20.880] but yeah, look, I love animals.
[16:20.880 -> 16:24.040] We have, I think we've got about 40, over 40 animals now.
[16:26.000 -> 16:28.000] And it's fun.
[16:29.000 -> 16:33.000] You know, when you're away from Formula 1 to get in amongst it.
[16:33.000 -> 16:37.000] I'm willing to bet a few people didn't know that, for sure.
[16:37.000 -> 16:42.000] Unlike Franz Tost, you aren't in favour of having more than 21 races in a year.
[16:42.000 -> 16:46.120] So tell us, what do you enjoy doing on a weekend
[16:46.120 -> 16:47.200] when we're not racing,
[16:47.200 -> 16:49.760] while we still have those weekends to spare?
[16:49.760 -> 16:51.800] Well, Franz, obviously, you know,
[16:51.800 -> 16:54.240] if he could replace Christmas with a Grand Prix,
[16:54.240 -> 16:55.080] he'd do it.
[16:55.960 -> 16:57.160] I have a slightly different outlook.
[16:57.160 -> 16:59.320] I think that you reach a point of saturation,
[16:59.320 -> 17:01.840] 21, maximum 22,
[17:01.840 -> 17:07.080] feels like the absolute upper limit of Grand Prix because I'd rather have quality
[17:07.080 -> 17:08.560] rather than quantity.
[17:08.560 -> 17:13.180] Look, away from Grand Prix weekends, I have a family, I've got a young family and there's
[17:13.180 -> 17:17.000] nothing better than spending time with them, seeing them grow up.
[17:17.000 -> 17:21.200] Because there's so many weekends that I'm obviously away almost half the weekends during
[17:21.200 -> 17:23.720] the course of the year I'm away or travelling.
[17:23.720 -> 17:28.520] So the weekends that you do get to spend at home it's great to have some family
[17:28.520 -> 17:32.120] time. And as we mentioned it's super busy time at the factory but there's also
[17:32.120 -> 17:35.800] some other projects going on here as well with Red Bull Advanced Technologies
[17:35.800 -> 17:41.280] as well. The Valkyrie project is it exciting to see F1 technology and
[17:41.280 -> 17:44.880] personnel influencing that program and working closely with Aston Martin? Very
[17:44.880 -> 17:50.320] much so and that's been a long time you know coming to fruition and you know the first
[17:50.320 -> 17:56.240] real car will be in Geneva and then very shortly after that after the motor show there it'll be
[17:57.200 -> 18:02.800] you know starting its testing program which will take place throughout the rest of this year so
[18:03.760 -> 18:07.560] you know plenty going on in advanced technology future cars that we're looking at as well,
[18:07.560 -> 18:08.960] so exciting times.
[18:08.960 -> 18:11.720] Are you looking forward to getting behind the wheel of a Valkyrie?
[18:11.720 -> 18:14.720] Have you picked a colour out for yours yet?
[18:14.720 -> 18:21.040] The Valkyrie looks just an awesome car and performance I think is going to be mind-boggling.
[18:21.040 -> 18:23.720] So yeah, it'll be fun.
[18:23.720 -> 18:29.320] Hopefully during the course of this year I'll get the chance to to have a run round at one of the test circuits in one and I'm sure
[18:29.320 -> 18:33.360] I'll scare myself silly. And it's not just a big year for us here at Aston
[18:33.360 -> 18:36.960] Martin Rebel Racing this year either we've also heard there's a Spice Girls
[18:36.960 -> 18:41.960] reunion on the cards. Is that a bit of a big deal in the Horner household at the
[18:41.960 -> 18:46.160] moment? It seems to be coming a bigger deal. I seem
[18:46.160 -> 18:51.160] to be their biggest sponsor in teas and coffees I think at the moment. But yeah, they're excited
[18:51.160 -> 18:58.400] to go on tour again. There's a huge following of Spice Girls fans so hopefully I'll get
[18:58.400 -> 19:05.040] to a couple of their concerts and hopefully in Wembley. They start when we're in Monaco and so
[19:05.040 -> 19:10.000] it's during that period between Monaco and Montreal that Gerry will be getting
[19:10.000 -> 19:14.000] a Union Jack dress out. Very busy time of the year in the Horner household and
[19:14.000 -> 19:17.000] once again we have a pretty action-packed Showcar schedule this
[19:17.000 -> 19:21.520] season. Yeah. Do you still see this as a great way that we can reach into untapped
[19:21.520 -> 19:27.720] F1 markets and engage with some new fans? Well the running show car is such a cool activity you know we take it all over
[19:27.720 -> 19:31.240] the world it's been to the Himalayas it's been on ice lakes Tom Cruise has
[19:31.240 -> 19:36.400] driven the car you know it's just done so many cool things and that'll continue
[19:36.400 -> 19:40.120] this year taking Formula One to where you wouldn't expect to see it bringing
[19:40.120 -> 19:44.200] it to the people and allowing people to engage with you know with Formula One
[19:44.200 -> 19:45.560] it's a unique activity that
[19:45.560 -> 19:50.880] we do and it's a big part of our programme for 2019.
[19:50.880 -> 19:55.700] And Wings for Life are an important official team charity, important to all of us here.
[19:55.700 -> 19:59.120] Is there anything special on the cards for Wings for Life this year?
[19:59.120 -> 20:05.800] There's lots of plans in the pipeline for Wings for Life. It's great to see traction really being made with that
[20:05.800 -> 20:12.840] charity, with the progress that's been made in recent months. It just enforces that belief
[20:12.840 -> 20:18.040] that a cure will one day be found for spinal cord injury and damage. So it's such a great
[20:18.040 -> 20:23.600] charity, we're fully behind it and looking forward to working with them through this
[20:23.600 -> 20:30.800] year. And just to finish up, do you have a message for our fans and our listeners heading into 2019?
[20:30.800 -> 20:35.600] Look, I'm really excited about 2019. I think it's going to be a really exciting season for Formula 1.
[20:35.600 -> 20:39.000] There's some new things for us, obviously we've got a new driver.
[20:39.000 -> 20:51.200] I think he's going to surprise a few people in Pierre Gasly this year, so he's well worth getting behind. We've got this new engine in the car. It's going to be fascinating to see how that progresses.
[20:51.200 -> 20:56.000] And of course, we've got Max Verstappen, arguably the most exciting driver currently in Formula 1.
[20:56.000 -> 21:01.800] So, you know, we've got some great ingredients to really spice things up this year.
[21:02.400 -> 21:06.000] Thanks, Christian. That's got us all very excited for the season ahead.
[21:06.000 -> 21:10.000] On the podcast across the year, we'd like to introduce you to the team behind the car.
[21:10.000 -> 21:14.000] We have a series called 60 Seconds with, and right now we'd like you to meet,
[21:14.000 -> 21:15.000] Dario Itzo.
[21:15.000 -> 21:18.000] I'm Dario Itzo, racing technical advisor for ExxonMobil.
[21:19.000 -> 21:24.000] A typical working day for me requires testing of fuel, engine oil,
[21:24.000 -> 21:26.400] synthetic gear oil and hydraulic oil to identify any signs of mechanical issues. Na mojem dnešnjem ljubavu ima smetno testovanje petelja, petelja sila, sintetico petelja et hidrolico petelja,
[21:26.400 -> 21:28.800] da se identifizira vse nekaj nekaterih mekanicovi,
[21:28.800 -> 21:30.600] nekaj nekaj, kot se bi med doktorem
[21:30.600 -> 21:35.000] analiziralo glasbo na atleta, preparacino na competizaciju.
[21:35.000 -> 21:36.600] Poskušam raditi sampli,
[21:36.600 -> 21:37.800] veliko kot potrebno,
[21:37.800 -> 21:40.400] da potrebno vrata vrata v ingenieri.
[21:40.400 -> 21:43.600] Vodovica imenu labori,
[21:43.600 -> 21:46.480] je da si mozi raditiete raditi test v minuto.
[21:46.480 -> 21:51.480] Osobno, ko som eniko exomobile tehnicisti,
[21:51.480 -> 21:54.000] so naši colleghi,
[21:54.000 -> 21:55.600] ki lavorano in svoje scene
[21:55.600 -> 21:57.000] in ino,
[21:57.000 -> 22:00.480] per formularemo nasi lubricanti et energije.
[22:00.480 -> 22:02.480] Moja matica mi je spremljala,
[22:02.480 -> 22:05.000] da so mi bili hipnotizirani v auto. My mother used to say when I was one, I was hypnotized by cars.
[22:05.000 -> 22:11.000] So I guess you could say my passion for Formula 1 started at a young age.
[22:11.000 -> 22:15.000] Great to meet Dario. Can't wait to introduce you to more of the team across the year.
[22:15.000 -> 22:21.000] That's it for this edition of Talking Bull. Now we look forward to Albert Park down under on March 17th.
[22:21.000 -> 22:28.820] We leave you with a very exclusive track that's big in our factory at the moment. This is Floors with Don't Count Me Out and we think you'll love it. We'll be
[22:28.820 -> 22:32.800] back very soon with more action from the track, the paddock and the factory. Until
[22:32.800 -> 22:45.000] then, take care. It's not the first time that I've fallen, almost drowned
[22:46.000 -> 22:50.000] If I'm going down, I'm not going quiet
[22:52.000 -> 22:57.000] I've carried the world so long, my feet don't touch the ground
[22:58.000 -> 23:00.000] The oceans are gonna run dry
[23:00.000 -> 23:04.000] And every star's gonna leave the sky
[23:04.000 -> 23:07.200] Before I give up this fight
[23:06.400 -> 23:10.800] Gonna knock me down but don't count me out
[23:10.000 -> 23:13.600] As long as I've still got breath
