Another week, another new episode of Grid Walk! Briana shares with Nicole that she bought tickets to the 2023 IndyCar Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach. It is no surprise that the cost of IndyCar admission is nowhere near the price tag of a Formula 1 grand prix.
This past weekend the lights finally went out at the 2023 Formula 1 Bahrain Grand Prix. Will Aston Martin F1 Team be able to keep the fire going? Is Red Bull Racing’s car even more powerful than what we’ve seen? Should Mercedes-AMG F1 Team just scrap the plans for the W14? Will the 2023 Formula 1 season have any positive moments for Mclaren F1 Team? How has Scuderia Ferrari ALREADY disappointed Charles Leclerc??? Esteban Ocon and the Alpine F1 Team tie one of the worst F1 records. Aston Martin F1 Team’s driver Lance Stroll gets real with his social media followers after posting a video sharing his recovery efforts from his biking accident.
Briana and Nicole share their “podium moments” from the last week in Formula 1 and the 2023 Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix. Who was the wholesome star of the MoneyGram Haas F1 Team’s garage? On team radio, to Aston Martin F1 Team and the world, Fernando Alonso announces who his hero is. Drivers, like Carlos Sainz and Pierre Gasly, and Team Principals, really just Guenther Steiner, are photographed in flashy sequined blazers in promotion for the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix. What did Sergio “Checo'' Perez say at the Formula 1 Post-Race press conference? Which Formula 1 team had the worst technical failures of the 2023 Formula 1 Bahrain Grand Prix?
Has American TV viewership of F1 reached its peak? How does the size of the younger demographic of Formula 1 fans compare to other motorsports like IndyCar and The NASCAR Cup Series? ESPN has extended their broadcasting partnership with Formula 1 until 2025 for a much higher price tag. This is a great opportunity for a new ESPN F1 Post-Race Show and sponsorship deals with big brands like, Mercedes Benz and Heineken Lager Beer.

[00:00.000 -> 00:03.760] Parker literally just lifted his head up from my bed when I started recording.
[00:03.760 -> 00:07.680] I went and turned him down. He's like, what? And then he just put his head back down.
[00:07.680 -> 00:09.520] So he's like, okay, cool. You're not done.
[00:10.960 -> 00:16.160] I love that in our pre-show today, Parker licked the mic and I have my AirPod in.
[00:16.160 -> 00:21.360] So it felt like your dog from afar was just like, right in my ear. It was very cute.
[00:22.160 -> 00:26.440] Parker's pursuing the career of an ASMR streamer, so this was
[00:26.440 -> 00:34.720] his first attempt at doggy ASMR. Some sniffs, some licks, on a microphone. He will soon
[00:34.720 -> 00:47.680] be paying for his own stake in this house. Last night I bought my tickets to the IndyCar race that's in Southern California in about
[00:47.680 -> 00:48.680] five weeks.
[00:48.680 -> 00:49.680] The Long Beach Grand Prix.
[00:49.680 -> 00:50.680] Super, super excited.
[00:50.680 -> 00:58.320] I bet it was a lot different price range than a Formula One race.
[00:58.320 -> 00:59.320] Love supply and demand.
[00:59.320 -> 01:04.560] Yeah, that's why I've been sitting on buying these tickets for a long time because for
[01:04.560 -> 01:07.720] context I'm about 45 minutes away from the Long Beach Grand Prix.
[01:07.720 -> 01:09.880] Like, I don't even need to buy a hotel.
[01:09.880 -> 01:13.360] It's just like an easy can-do activity.
[01:13.360 -> 01:14.760] But I'm like, yeah, I'll get around to it.
[01:14.760 -> 01:18.840] And I pulled up the prices after similarly looking up the prices for like Canada and
[01:18.840 -> 01:20.840] Silverstone for F1 this year.
[01:20.840 -> 01:23.360] And I went, oh, I'm buying these right now.
[01:23.360 -> 01:26.720] No, like hit buy $30 paddock pass.
[01:26.720 -> 01:28.040] Yes, please.
[01:28.800 -> 01:34.160] Unheard of. Unheard of in the world of Formula One. I mean, obviously, yes, it's not the same.
[01:34.160 -> 01:40.520] It's different, whatever. But like, just the stark difference of that you could buy a paddock
[01:40.520 -> 01:49.760] pass for $30 when that's not even what the taxes and ticket fees would be for a like GA
[01:49.760 -> 01:58.720] ticket for an F1 race. That's unbelievable. The Long Beach street circuit is really cool visually
[01:59.280 -> 02:07.280] and I just and I know F1 race there for about five years. I really like, if F1's gonna keep expanding,
[02:07.280 -> 02:12.560] please come back to Long Beach. I don't know if the track would be any good to actually race on,
[02:13.200 -> 02:20.960] but it looks stunning. It is on the marina. Yeah, you're just, it's what F1 loves. I mean,
[02:20.960 -> 02:29.060] give them another racetrack right along the water for some beautiful aerial overview shots and as we'll continue to talk today American
[02:29.060 -> 02:34.020] interest is growing and that means eventually probably more races in the US
[02:34.020 -> 02:38.100] so it makes sense for them to go where they've gone before and Long Beach
[02:38.100 -> 02:46.720] California not a bad location. Now I understand they have one Vegas. We probably don't need another one on the
[02:46.720 -> 02:51.840] west coast, but I will still campaign for it just because I want to have F1 in my backyard. That
[02:51.840 -> 02:56.880] sounds awesome. Thank you. I gotta agree with that. Although I would pitch for a New York race
[02:56.880 -> 03:02.880] coming soon, but I like Long Beach. Gives me an excuse to go back to California. But something
[03:02.880 -> 03:05.040] cool and F1 related about the
[03:05.040 -> 03:10.440] Long Beach Grand Prix is they're putting on a historic F1 race. So there's like a
[03:10.440 -> 03:19.400] I wish I remembered the name of the car for profit. It's like a historical
[03:19.400 -> 03:38.120] preservation society and they're getting together a bunch of old F1 cars and they're gonna race them on the IndyCar weekend. Brianna passes out. Yeah they said it's all gonna be cars from like the 70s 80s F1 era. Nice. Totally sick right? Yeah very very cool.
[03:38.120 -> 03:41.600] You'll definitely get to see some really good stuff and get to steal I mean
[03:41.600 -> 03:47.500] IndyCar will be a lot of fun no matter what. Oh for sure. Getting to see any racing in person will be a lot of fun.
[03:47.500 -> 03:50.500] And going with your mom will be great. I think she'll really enjoy it too.
[03:50.500 -> 03:54.500] Yes. So my mom watches F1 with me. She really likes it.
[03:54.500 -> 03:57.500] But has never gone to, like, an F1 race.
[03:57.500 -> 04:02.500] And I'm like, ah, this is an easy way and a much cheaper way to watch cars go fast.
[04:02.500 -> 04:04.500] Mm-hmm. Yes, definitely.
[04:04.500 -> 04:05.920] So, I agree. I think she's going to be overwhelmed, but in the best way. a much cheaper way to watch cars go fast.
[04:03.440 -> 04:07.200] Yes, definitely. So I agree, I think
[04:05.920 -> 04:09.760] she's going to
[04:07.200 -> 04:11.840] be overwhelmed, but in the best way,
[04:09.760 -> 04:13.920] because it's loud.
[04:11.840 -> 04:15.680] Yeah, that sounds like any like first race
[04:13.920 -> 04:17.040] experience is the first, like I knew it
[04:15.680 -> 04:17.680] was going to be loud, but like oh my god,
[04:17.040 -> 04:20.480] I feel my
[04:17.680 -> 04:22.480] brain shaking inside my head, like how
[04:20.480 -> 04:24.640] is it so fast, even though I knew this,
[04:22.480 -> 04:25.520] knew that the cars were loud and fast,
[04:24.640 -> 04:26.240] but it's the most like
[04:27.280 -> 04:31.760] overwhelming, but also the realest piece when you're seeing racing in person is, oh wow,
[04:31.760 -> 04:37.520] it's really happening. Cause like that sounds so the same and different than it does on TV.
[04:38.320 -> 04:38.960] And the smell.
[04:39.600 -> 04:40.240] Oh, the smell.
[04:40.240 -> 04:41.760] The smell. Yeah.
[04:41.760 -> 04:43.680] Oh, I can smell the burning rubber.
[04:43.840 -> 04:45.240] I can smell the burning rubber.
[04:46.280 -> 04:46.900] We had a race.
[04:48.000 -> 04:48.280] It's Thursday.
[04:49.680 -> 04:50.560] So it's been four days.
[04:54.080 -> 04:55.520] Have you, have you processed everything yet?
[04:56.240 -> 04:56.320] Not at all.
[05:01.240 -> 05:01.640] Uh, I have not processed that we've had a race and that we don't have one this week.
[05:08.640 -> 05:11.360] It was, uh, Bahrain was a lot to just dive back into. Aston Martin's a thing.
[05:17.840 -> 05:18.640] Oh my gosh, so we made a video on our any insert social media platform here, because I
[05:26.480 -> 05:33.880] where I showed all the calculations of how much the cars have developed since Baku, not Baku, Bahrain in 2020. That shows you how I'm feeling about this. The Aston Martin developed two and a half seconds.
[05:33.880 -> 05:39.720] For context, the Red Bull developed a second. I cannot get over the fact that Aston Martin
[05:39.720 -> 05:45.040] developed a second and a half more of lap time than the rest of the field.
[05:45.800 -> 05:51.960] Aston Martin literally created time. Like they found some machine and built time for
[05:51.960 -> 05:58.440] themselves. It was crazy the pace that that car had all weekend. I mean, we had saw it in
[05:58.440 -> 06:09.280] testing and, you know, we're unsure with what Lance is going to come in with and we'll talk all about him later. But oh my god, that was just coming flying out of the gates.
[06:09.280 -> 06:17.960] And Aston was seventh last year. Well, almost sixth. They were like a... I literally, if I
[06:17.960 -> 06:22.800] remember correctly, I think Lance needed to pass someone on the final lap in order to get P6 in
[06:22.800 -> 06:25.360] the championship. I'm sure they're happy they didn't
[06:25.360 -> 06:31.760] because of the wind tunnel testing time and it's not like they need the money. But I just, I vividly
[06:31.760 -> 06:36.240] remember that interview where they were like, sorry Lance, you didn't get P6 and he goes, oh,
[06:36.240 -> 06:48.200] oh well. And I was like, oh, okay, I see what's going on here. But-hmm, mm-hmm, yep, yep, yep. But in testing, we knew they were gonna be improved,
[06:49.040 -> 06:51.000] but they're a smaller team,
[06:51.000 -> 06:52.420] they're not one of the big three.
[06:52.420 -> 06:55.860] We kind of thought that that was all they had.
[06:55.860 -> 06:57.840] Like we were, you can never know exactly
[06:57.840 -> 07:00.520] how much someone is showing or sandbagging,
[07:00.520 -> 07:03.940] but it was a fair assessment and did turn out to be true
[07:03.940 -> 07:05.040] that the Red Bull was a lot
[07:05.040 -> 07:09.920] faster than we saw in testing, and the Aston was about as fast as we thought.
[07:09.920 -> 07:15.440] I just don't think we expected the Ferrari or the Mercedes to not get better after testing.
[07:15.440 -> 07:16.440] Karly.
[07:16.440 -> 07:17.440] Just not enough.
[07:17.440 -> 07:21.200] Like, they did not get, there was not the improvements that we thought we would see
[07:21.200 -> 07:25.760] or wanted to see from after testing, in my opinion, at least like just
[07:25.760 -> 07:35.840] from like post last season, I, I expected more from both teams in terms of development. And I mean, I
[07:35.840 -> 07:41.760] was expecting more teams to be like acid Martin. Like I was expecting this to be or not, maybe not
[07:41.760 -> 07:47.800] to the extent, but I just anticipated there being more competitive changes made.
[07:47.800 -> 07:54.000] So it was like, not as large of a gap as there currently is.
[07:54.000 -> 07:58.400] But I guess that's again, me being too hopeful about the offseason.
[07:58.400 -> 08:00.400] Where's our hope alarm?
[08:00.400 -> 08:02.000] There you go.
[08:02.000 -> 08:05.000] No, it's the second year of a regulation set.
[08:05.000 -> 08:07.280] If anything, normally the field widens.
[08:07.280 -> 08:13.400] I don't... and admittedly, like, what we are seeing with Aston Martin is one of the most
[08:13.400 -> 08:17.520] unprecedented things to ever happen in Formula One.
[08:17.520 -> 08:18.520] Period.
[08:18.520 -> 08:24.840] If they keep this up, like, there's a reason we have the big teams and the rest.
[08:24.840 -> 08:29.120] And then normally someone, one or two teams that are sad, but like there's,
[08:29.240 -> 08:32.120] there's, there's a midfield for a reason.
[08:32.360 -> 08:36.320] And teams don't break out of the midfield, especially not in the second year of a
[08:36.320 -> 08:41.040] regulation set on a cost cap system where no one can outspend someone else
[08:41.040 -> 08:42.480] to get out of the midfield.
[08:43.360 -> 08:47.820] Spend less money and also make your car this way
[08:47.820 -> 08:51.000] and also somehow get better while changing everything
[08:51.000 -> 08:52.360] and spending less money.
[08:53.300 -> 08:56.100] Like, Hwasa's like, okay!
[08:56.100 -> 08:58.260] Well, Red Bull gets to spend the same amount of money
[08:58.260 -> 09:00.060] as you and just gets to improve their car.
[09:00.060 -> 09:04.580] So I did some research to see historically
[09:04.580 -> 09:07.120] if this has ever happened, period.
[09:07.680 -> 09:14.560] And the only time a jump like this really has ever happened was at the start of regulation set.
[09:14.560 -> 09:18.800] So a team like punted on a year and then got the next year's regulation set really right.
[09:20.160 -> 09:27.200] And then like, I think it was 2012 to 2013, Mercedes made a jump.
[09:27.200 -> 09:28.200] And that's it.
[09:28.200 -> 09:34.800] Like, in the history, in the modern history of F1, this has fundamentally never happened.
[09:34.800 -> 09:36.200] It doesn't happen.
[09:36.200 -> 09:38.200] F1 doesn't work this way.
[09:39.400 -> 09:47.100] And they're like, S. Martin's like, here's evidence it does. Yeah, it's exciting to watch.
[09:48.080 -> 09:51.040] Not Nolan Alonso fan, so it was like,
[09:51.040 -> 09:53.840] I wish it could have been a lot of other drivers.
[09:53.840 -> 09:58.440] Am a supporter of Lance, so very happy for him.
[09:58.440 -> 10:01.720] I'm excited to see just what is gonna go down
[10:01.720 -> 10:03.080] with this car the rest of the season.
[10:03.080 -> 10:10.100] I think anybody is, but it was, it was an exciting race for like a lot of different reasons and points
[10:10.100 -> 10:12.100] And I think also just I felt
[10:12.820 -> 10:15.100] starved of an f1 race
[10:15.940 -> 10:20.200] Give me all the racing content. Yeah, I was good to see everything back on track. I
[10:21.780 -> 10:25.760] Think that I think this weekend will be a big test.
[10:25.760 -> 10:26.760] Not this weekend.
[10:26.760 -> 10:27.760] Wow, we don't have racing this weekend.
[10:27.760 -> 10:30.560] I know we already established that, but now I'm sad.
[10:30.560 -> 10:35.340] Jetta is a very different circuit.
[10:35.340 -> 10:44.080] So I do think that there will be races where the Aston theoretically will be closer to
[10:44.080 -> 10:46.000] the Mercedes than they were this weekend.
[10:46.000 -> 10:59.000] There's been a lot of mixed messages when it comes to the W14 and Mercedes as a whole.
[10:59.000 -> 11:08.800] This is a painful conversation to already be having this early. But I'm unsure because I feel like everyone's unsure of where
[11:08.800 -> 11:11.300] we feel like Mercedes is this season.
[11:11.300 -> 11:14.100] Is it just like blow it up and start over?
[11:14.700 -> 11:18.200] Do we upgrade, massive upgrades, little upgrades?
[11:20.200 -> 11:22.300] Toto, slow the cost cap.
[11:22.300 -> 11:25.840] I don't know what the answer is here, but lots of different
[11:27.440 -> 11:31.040] words coming out of Mercedes in general, and I just don't know what to believe anymore.
[11:32.320 -> 11:37.920] Yeah, and then like in the mix, there's a bunch of reports from I'll call less than
[11:37.920 -> 11:49.000] reputable news sources. And so I, I genuinely like my takeaway from Mercedes leaving that race is I have no idea what's going on.
[11:49.000 -> 11:52.000] Can someone tell me what's actually going on?
[11:52.000 -> 11:55.000] Because just what? What's going on?
[11:55.000 -> 12:07.000] I don't think anyone is able to do that at Mercedes or kind of anywhere in F1, there were plenty of moments this weekend that I was just like,
[12:07.000 -> 12:12.000] oh, what, what's happening here? I made a podium.
[12:12.000 -> 12:15.000] Yes, I have a podium of my top three.
[12:15.000 -> 12:23.000] What moments of this weekend? There were so many that like, I could have had probably a top 10,
[12:23.000 -> 12:28.800] but I did get it down to just a P3 to a P1.
[12:29.200 -> 12:32.800] Ooh, alright. Wait, wait, let me give you...
[12:40.800 -> 12:44.600] So my P3 for what's happening right now,
[12:49.440 -> 12:50.080] So my p3 for what's happening right now when all of the carbon or all of the material was flying off Carlos's
[12:56.880 -> 12:57.280] Charles's car at the beginning of q1 it was almost immediately like what is happening here?
[13:02.760 -> 13:12.000] Ferrari can't even keep it together in the figurative and literal sense It was a foreshadowing of future events, unfortunately for Charles.
[13:12.000 -> 13:19.000] Then we have for P2, Lando making six pit stops.
[13:19.000 -> 13:27.180] I, we, when we get to the misery corner of this like race discussion, I cannot wait to
[13:27.180 -> 13:29.040] talk about that one.
[13:29.040 -> 13:33.600] Just so much happened with McLaren and it, it just felt, you know, commentators were
[13:33.600 -> 13:34.760] not giving enough context.
[13:34.760 -> 13:41.640] I'm just watching the, all of the data tracking and Lando is stopping so often.
[13:41.640 -> 13:44.160] Hey, he had no tire, Deg.
[13:44.160 -> 13:48.000] Right. More problems and things, but it was again I would just a what and
[13:48.640 -> 13:54.560] To probably no surprise to anyone at all my top. Uh, what's happening week?
[13:54.760 -> 13:57.460] What's happening this moment of the bar Angie pre?
[13:58.080 -> 14:04.960] St besties penalty hat trick this boy got three penalties penalties on penalties on penalties
[14:05.000 -> 14:09.000] This boy got three penalties. Penalties on penalties on penalties. And then they just gave up. They just, they were like, we're done.
[14:09.000 -> 14:10.000] We can't.
[14:12.000 -> 14:17.000] So when it could not get worse for Esty Besty, it did. Numerous times.
[14:20.000 -> 14:24.000] And those are the three moments where I really felt like, a what is going on.
[14:24.000 -> 14:25.040] I can't believe Mercedes didn felt like, a what is going on.
[14:25.040 -> 14:27.280] Mercedes didn't make your a what podium.
[14:28.320 -> 14:32.320] Which reminds me of a podium I brought though that did involve Mercedes.
[14:32.320 -> 14:32.960] Please share.
[14:34.560 -> 14:38.080] Top reality TV show moments of the F1 weekends.
[14:41.360 -> 14:43.040] Everything Alonso said on the radio.
[14:47.320 -> 14:51.360] Alonso had on the radio. Alonzo had a great radio. He really... it was definitely
[14:51.360 -> 14:55.280] a little spicy this weekend.
[14:55.280 -> 14:59.320] P2. George Russell deciding that Max is going to win 100% of the races this year.
[14:59.320 -> 15:02.320] Boooooo!
[15:02.320 -> 15:34.040] Boooooo! What a quote.oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo started. It is so dramatic to just say, it's done, we're done, no more! And all that
[15:34.040 -> 15:46.000] happened was qualify in a 23 race season. Just sad. I just... there's so much time left. Everyone needs to just...
[15:46.960 -> 15:48.960] like, take a breath.
[15:51.040 -> 15:54.880] Before they speak to anyone. I'm sure Mercedes is not as much of a disaster as the quotes are showing right now.
[15:56.080 -> 16:00.960] Just, can we get the PR in line? So like, there's uniform messaging so I know what's going on.
[16:02.240 -> 16:06.880] Uh, that's all I would ask for for too. And yeah, it's context.
[16:06.880 -> 16:08.680] For Mercedes, everything is failing.
[16:08.680 -> 16:15.400] A P5, P7 finish for any other team or for most teams on the grid would be an iconic,
[16:15.400 -> 16:16.620] unbelievable celebration.
[16:16.620 -> 16:19.640] But for Mercedes, this is an embarrassment.
[16:19.640 -> 16:26.300] So yeah, it's a rough time to be a Merc fan.
[16:31.700 -> 16:33.900] So much of this race felt like most of the teams needed to go sit in the misery corner and just like
[16:37.700 -> 16:42.400] So we had McLaren that like Piastri retired after 19 laps
[16:42.600 -> 16:45.680] Lando had six pit stops, as you've already said,
[16:45.680 -> 16:53.760] Esteban Ocon tied the most penalties in a race, Charle-Claire's had two faulty batteries,
[16:53.760 -> 16:59.520] which I do not believe for a second is because a mechanic failed twice. This is not human error.
[17:00.080 -> 17:01.040] I can't believe it's gonna be...
[17:02.000 -> 17:10.000] I can't believe it's gonna be... It's gonna be race two and Charlotte Claire's getting a penalty. Race two?
[17:10.000 -> 17:16.000] How? How? How do... how do they do?
[17:16.000 -> 17:21.000] Which leads me to one of my favorite podiums I have from this race weekend.
[17:21.000 -> 17:25.840] Least Functional Tech tech bits of the week.
[17:25.840 -> 17:27.840] I don't know what to do.
[17:33.360 -> 17:37.360] P3 Ferrari batteries. Did any of them have their phones charged?
[17:40.720 -> 17:47.000] P2 just McLaren. Everything about the McLarenaren not even just the car, McLaren.
[17:47.000 -> 17:49.000] Yes.
[17:49.000 -> 17:51.000] The blue.
[17:51.000 -> 17:53.000] The blue.
[17:53.000 -> 17:55.000] Oh, sad.
[17:55.000 -> 17:59.000] And P1 all the wheel brows.
[17:59.000 -> 18:05.000] I don't understand how this is an issue through testing.
[18:05.000 -> 18:08.000] They're just flying everywhere.
[18:08.000 -> 18:13.000] I think collectively everyone needs to develop better wheelbrows.
[18:13.000 -> 18:15.000] This is funny.
[18:19.000 -> 18:22.000] What if it just went flying off the Ferrari and qualifying?
[18:22.000 -> 18:26.240] Again? Again? Okay.
[18:26.280 -> 18:27.880] What is that? What was that?
[18:28.560 -> 18:30.080] There it goes. There's the car.
[18:32.800 -> 18:35.760] McLaren did no preseason testing because they just sit there
[18:36.040 -> 18:38.400] strengthening their wheel brows.
[18:40.320 -> 18:42.080] I don't understand. I'm pretty sure
[18:43.680 -> 18:46.320] Williams also had a wheelbrow issue over the weekend.
[18:47.920 -> 18:51.600] It's just, I don't know what it is about how teams developed that part of the car this week.
[18:51.600 -> 18:58.240] But it was, it definitely really, I don't know, it was, it was falling apart everywhere left and
[18:58.240 -> 19:03.840] right, which actually leads to another one of my podiums or inspired one of my podiums.
[19:03.840 -> 19:06.160] I was keeping track of my favorite
[19:06.160 -> 19:10.960] social media moments throughout the weekend and they're race related. They're not, you know,
[19:10.960 -> 19:18.720] race related, but lots of F1 things. This is so exciting because I have top social media team
[19:18.720 -> 19:23.520] posts. Oh, you do top social media moments. Okay, ready?
[19:23.580 -> 19:31.960] you do top social media moments. Okay, ready? My top social media moments. Honorary mention, Haas just utilizing K-Mag's daughter throughout
[19:31.960 -> 19:37.540] that whole race. That little baby was so freaking cute. She was everywhere. So honorary mention
[19:37.540 -> 19:49.440] to her. Very adorable. Come to every single race. But now my P3 social media moment, which did come after Charles was falling apart in QALY,
[19:49.440 -> 19:56.680] comes from a tweet from Al-Fatari, where they tweeted about the red flag and said, this
[19:56.680 -> 20:02.140] better not happen every time Nick DeVries is on track.
[20:02.140 -> 20:05.000] And I just know that as soon as that boy was signed
[20:11.560 -> 20:13.880] They had this tweet in the drafts waiting to go and they literally pulled trigger on it as soon as they could
[20:15.600 -> 20:18.600] Right Too fast of a reaction my p2
[20:19.440 -> 20:26.000] Joke has been made too many times just like on social media already. Like it's no longer funny. No, you
[20:26.000 -> 20:32.880] just get it. Right. I'm just like, yeah, you had this like in your drafts since the summer. And we
[20:32.880 -> 20:37.360] understand that you got really excited that you could use it, but like, wow, really just
[20:37.360 -> 20:44.480] lackluster, but it was just, oh my God. Can't believe it. Uh, P2 for top social media moments.
[20:42.000 -> 20:45.000] Oh my god, can't believe it. P2 for top social media moments.
[20:45.000 -> 20:51.000] All of the Vegas Grand Prix sparkly sequin jacket promo.
[20:51.000 -> 20:53.000] Drivers continuing to wear it.
[20:53.000 -> 20:57.000] Gunther continuing to wear it for all other interviews.
[20:57.000 -> 21:01.000] Charles saying that he was told he's the only one being dressed as Elvis.
[21:01.000 -> 21:04.000] It was corny, it was cheesy, it was Vegas.
[21:04.000 -> 21:05.520] Beautiful.
[21:05.520 -> 21:09.520] And my top favorite social media moment of the week
[21:09.520 -> 21:13.040] is Formula One tweeting out the picture of George
[21:13.040 -> 21:15.680] from the F1 intro on a green screen
[21:15.680 -> 21:18.600] of him standing posed, hands against the wall,
[21:18.600 -> 21:21.040] and say, do your worst.
[21:21.040 -> 21:24.080] And he was just put in every situation.
[21:24.080 -> 21:27.660] The user generated content was crazy everywhere. And we're going to
[21:27.660 -> 21:32.060] be seeing that meme of George for I think years to come.
[21:33.980 -> 21:39.780] I can't. I don't know who the new f1 account admins are. But
[21:39.780 -> 21:43.900] thank you because you've been doing a great job. Thank you.
[21:47.840 -> 21:48.400] you because you've been doing a great job. Just thank you. All right. This is leads me to I
[21:56.400 -> 22:05.240] specifically looked at top unhinged team social media posts. And then I also have top wholesome team social media posts from the last week or so. But you know, specifically the race weekend. You ready? Yes.
[22:06.480 -> 22:08.560] All right, P3.
[22:10.560 -> 22:17.960] Red Bull putting the cat and bear dance just over a video of Max and Checo walking on their TikTok.
[22:20.880 -> 22:23.120] We like what Red Bull likes to be funny.
[22:23.800 -> 22:28.400] Right, and I also just like that they have two drivers that will not do the most for
[22:28.400 -> 22:29.400] their TikTok.
[22:29.400 -> 22:33.500] So the fact that it's just a video of the two of them walking with these little animated
[22:33.500 -> 22:36.360] features like jamming out in front of them.
[22:36.360 -> 22:37.360] Perfect.
[22:37.360 -> 22:38.360] Perfect.
[22:38.360 -> 22:41.040] P2, just Fernando Alonso's TikTok.
[22:41.040 -> 22:44.440] I know that's not a team, but we know it's run by Aston Martin for the most part.
[22:44.440 -> 22:54.560] So Fernando Alonso's TikTok. I know that's not a team but we know it's run by Aston Martin for the most part. So Fernando Alonso's TikTok. There's a lot just going on there. Yep yep. Before P1 I did have an honorable mention
[22:55.120 -> 22:59.840] for two non-team entries. One is just the Vegas Grand Prix.
[23:03.520 -> 23:11.120] We love Vegas. My second honorable mention is the F1 accounts TikTok that put every bad thing that happened
[23:11.120 -> 23:15.760] to Esquipon Ocon under the sound, the Britney Spears Oops I Did It Again sound that just
[23:15.760 -> 23:16.760] goes oops, oops, on repeat.
[23:16.760 -> 23:25.840] I was so sure it was a fan edit.
[23:25.840 -> 23:30.160] And I was stunned when I looked down and saw it was the official F1 account.
[23:30.160 -> 23:31.160] Poor, poor Estephan.
[23:31.160 -> 23:35.200] And that leads me to P1.
[23:35.200 -> 23:40.080] The Mercedes TikTok post that said Toto's asking me to take TikTok more seriously and
[23:40.080 -> 23:45.040] it's just the Maxwell the cat meme over the garage.
[23:46.660 -> 23:48.400] Had me in stitches.
[23:49.400 -> 23:54.400] It was great. Cause I also imagined that being a real meeting
[23:56.820 -> 23:59.100] that Toto was like, this is an embarrassment.
[23:59.100 -> 24:01.380] And I also don't think he's like watching it that closely
[24:01.380 -> 24:04.580] but like just the idea of that whole interaction
[24:04.580 -> 24:09.480] possibly happening is hysterical. starting into the characters leaning into it really really
[24:09.480 -> 24:14.320] late so do you want my my podium for wholesome social media moments of the
[24:14.320 -> 24:35.860] weekend yes give it okay ready p3 everything with K-Mag's daughter. And P1, everything with K-Mag's daughter.
[24:35.860 -> 24:43.360] More specifically her putting on the headsets. I love that! That was so big! Yeah, there
[24:43.360 -> 24:47.000] really wasn't a lot of whole stuff. I mean, there's, like, I could probably, like,
[24:47.000 -> 24:53.000] lance on this. Like, I think that was, like, a lot. There was a lot of genuine wholesome lance content,
[24:53.000 -> 24:58.000] but that wouldn't have been as funny for the... really, it's just K-Maxxed daughter.
[24:58.000 -> 24:59.000] It's K-Maxxed daughter.
[24:59.000 -> 25:01.000] Yeah, gotta lean into the joke.
[25:02.000 -> 25:03.000] Um...
[25:03.000 -> 25:04.000] Alright.
[25:07.760 -> 25:10.080] lean into the joke. Um, all right. I did you bring any other podiums of the weekend? You wanted to?
[25:10.280 -> 25:14.600] Yes, I have before we wrap up race talk. I have one more just
[25:14.600 -> 25:17.320] because it was some of my favorite quotes for the week
[25:17.340 -> 25:20.640] weekend looking at different radios, different interviews,
[25:20.640 -> 25:30.520] post race press conferences, there was just a bunch. So my honorary mention is
[25:30.520 -> 25:35.320] Alex's post race, as soon as he finds out that he did get points in the first race.
[25:35.320 -> 25:41.840] He is so happy and he's just, it's all enjoyment and everyone is just like, yay, we did it.
[25:41.840 -> 25:46.580] So we love Alex and the points. We love Williams in the points, but we really love Alex in the points my
[25:47.200 -> 25:48.700] p3
[25:48.700 -> 25:50.700] quote of the week is
[25:50.860 -> 25:55.200] surprisingly a radio from Fernando Alonso, but it is his
[25:56.200 -> 26:01.740] Comment at the end of the race talking about how Lance is his hero because honestly after learning everything that Lance went through this week
[26:01.740 -> 26:06.000] He is also mine or last couple of weeks. It's unbelievable.
[26:06.000 -> 26:10.500] So shout out to Alonzo for recognizing Lance's effort,
[26:10.500 -> 26:11.460] especially in that moment
[26:11.460 -> 26:13.720] when it could have been all about him.
[26:13.720 -> 26:18.720] My P2, and I'm putting this at a P2 and it's not P1
[26:19.460 -> 26:24.460] because I am literally going to vote for myself.
[26:24.700 -> 26:26.220] And especially after a lot of the discussion
[26:26.220 -> 26:32.480] that we have, is Toto's quote from this past weekend of, even if I need to push him, being
[26:32.480 -> 26:37.920] Louis, around the track to get to the eighth, I'm going to do everything that's needed.
[26:37.920 -> 26:43.320] So again, all of this back and forth commentary all weekend.
[26:43.320 -> 26:46.080] This one was really specific, but also a great image of Toto.
[26:46.080 -> 26:49.920] I'm imagining Toto literally pushing Lewis around in like a wheelbarrow.
[26:51.760 -> 26:57.200] Exactly. Cause that's what it feels like. And this is the vibe that I am also in.
[26:57.760 -> 27:11.600] And my P1 favorite quote from the Bahrain GP weekend is post race press conference, Checo. It's nice to see three Red Bulls on the podium. And I'm
[27:11.600 -> 27:15.120] gonna leave that there. No further context, but my top
[27:15.120 -> 27:16.560] three favorite quotes of the week.
[27:19.760 -> 27:23.840] One of the most fascinating off track things that happens over
[27:23.840 -> 27:25.040] a race weekend
[27:25.460 -> 27:31.560] is the ability to get specific numbers around American F1 interests.
[27:31.800 -> 27:35.080] And I think we hear from the F1 side, how much that's growing and that's why
[27:35.080 -> 27:39.240] companies are investing and why they're investing in more American races,
[27:39.240 -> 27:41.800] because it's such an important market and there's growth, growth, growth.
[27:42.320 -> 27:45.280] And I know over the last four years, US viewership of
[27:45.280 -> 27:50.160] F1 has grown astronomically for all the reasons that have been beaten to death that has been
[27:50.160 -> 27:59.920] discussed. But I find that there's some predictions right now that viewership might be flat or like
[27:59.920 -> 28:06.320] we might have hit a ceiling and no one knows if that's true. So for week one I
[28:06.320 -> 28:12.200] pulled some numbers on US viewership. Now context all of this we don't get any F1
[28:12.200 -> 28:16.560] TV viewership and we don't get any viewership for anything that was aired
[28:16.560 -> 28:23.120] only on ESPN plus. So qualifying wasn't aired on cable therefore I don't have
[28:23.120 -> 28:30.640] numbers for it. So I'm just looking at race numbers year over year and they were they were flat and it was 1.3
[28:30.640 -> 28:36.160] million people watched the race but the stunning part of these numbers to me is
[28:36.160 -> 28:44.840] that almost 50% of them, it was 48%, were under 50 and for comparison the NASCAR
[28:44.840 -> 28:46.300] Cup Series and the IndyCar Race
[28:46.300 -> 28:51.580] that happened that exact same weekend had 20 percent and 18 percent under 50 viewership
[28:51.580 -> 28:56.980] respectively. So when people say that it's a young audience that is interested in and
[28:56.980 -> 29:02.580] following F1, that's the number. It is unheard of that nearly half of the viewers are under
[29:02.580 -> 29:05.000] 50 who are watching a race
[29:06.480 -> 29:13.320] Yeah, it's unbelievable again, it's for all the reasons that have been you know beaten and said over a thousand times
[29:13.320 -> 29:19.480] But like you're seeing the numbers you are able to pull the numbers yourself and be able to see like these are the demographics that are
[29:19.480 -> 29:20.920] watching and
[29:20.920 -> 29:23.200] 48% having your demographic in
[29:24.080 -> 29:25.000] any area,
[29:25.720 -> 29:28.560] be 48% anything,
[29:28.560 -> 29:32.760] particularly getting young people interested in something,
[29:32.760 -> 29:34.200] like under the age of 50,
[29:34.200 -> 29:37.240] you're speaking to a customer fan base
[29:37.240 -> 29:42.160] that will be a customer for a longer period of time.
[29:42.160 -> 29:47.000] Therefore, you get their money for a longer period of time. Therefore, you get their money for a longer period of time. And this is the
[29:48.200 -> 29:53.840] thing that F1 people are like really missing the point on is it's not just that, oh my
[29:53.840 -> 29:58.160] God, wow, young people are interested in F1, wow, Netflix, wow, American viewership, wow,
[29:58.160 -> 30:03.180] wow, wow, okay, great, all of that, whatever reasons it is. F1 is going to continue to
[30:03.180 -> 30:05.800] be profiting and making so much money in the
[30:05.800 -> 30:07.760] long term just because of the gain in interest.
[30:08.240 -> 30:10.200] If they don't fumble the back, but yes.
[30:10.320 -> 30:11.440] If they don't, right.
[30:11.480 -> 30:12.480] That's very true.
[30:13.160 -> 30:19.200] And so in America, NASCAR is still substantially the most watched series.
[30:19.600 -> 30:27.440] They had nearly 4 million viewers for their Sunday race versus the 1.3 F1 had, but F1 had 70% of the
[30:27.440 -> 30:37.440] amount of under 50. They had 800k under 50 and F1 had 600k. So, and this is again not counting anyone
[30:37.440 -> 30:46.120] on F1 TV, which you would, people who are paying for F1 TV Pro are like the diehards, the really invested group as well.
[30:46.120 -> 30:50.800] So I, gosh, if F1 wanted to share some of that data,
[30:50.800 -> 30:52.240] please, thank you, thank you.
[30:52.240 -> 30:53.920] I would just, I would be dying to see it.
[30:53.920 -> 30:55.080] I won't even share it with anyone.
[30:55.080 -> 30:57.080] I just, I just need to see it.
[30:57.080 -> 30:57.920] But-
[30:57.920 -> 31:01.040] F1, if you would like to give any of your viewership data,
[31:01.040 -> 31:03.160] F1 multiviewer, if you would like to give
[31:03.160 -> 31:05.760] some of your user data, would also love that.
[31:06.720 -> 31:15.120] Yes. So when I think sometimes what is lost when they're just looking at the raw numbers,
[31:15.120 -> 31:19.520] they're like, well, they're not even close to NASCAR in America. Why is everyone talking about
[31:19.520 -> 31:23.600] there being a boom? It's really what you're saying, Nicole, that the younger the viewership
[31:23.600 -> 31:25.040] is, theoretically,
[31:25.040 -> 31:27.180] the longer they're going to be customer bases.
[31:27.180 -> 31:32.800] So that's why companies are so heavily investing in F1 right now, because they want this young
[31:32.800 -> 31:38.000] audience that is going to pay things for 50 years.
[31:38.000 -> 31:39.000] Right.
[31:39.000 -> 31:47.080] And like, speaking of companies looking to be spending a butt ton of money in F1, ESPN this year
[31:47.080 -> 31:53.040] renewed their sponsorship deal with F1 for broadcasting rights.
[31:53.040 -> 31:59.320] And since ESPN is now renewing their, since ESPN has renewed that deal and it's more expensive,
[31:59.320 -> 32:05.840] previously got, ESPN has been showing F1 races for like $5 million a year since 2018 for those exclusive
[32:05.840 -> 32:06.840] rights.
[32:06.840 -> 32:11.440] So obviously now, very different pool to be playing with and their newest deal is until
[32:11.440 -> 32:18.200] 2025 and ESPN is paying somewhere between $75 million to $90 million per year as versus
[32:18.200 -> 32:19.280] the $5 million.
[32:19.280 -> 32:23.880] So they're looking to, ESPN is willing to spend more money to gain those rights.
[32:23.880 -> 32:26.080] And then they're also now bringing in new sponsors to be promoting F1 on the ESPN is willing to spend more money to gain those rights and then they're also now bringing in new sponsors
[32:26.480 -> 32:34.400] To be promoting f1 on the ESPN shows. So Mercedes is not the Mercedes team. The brand Mercedes is sponsoring the
[32:35.360 -> 32:38.100] ESPN f1 presence during races
[32:38.640 -> 32:43.880] Post race pre-race show presence of their ads everything on ESPN when it comes to f1
[32:44.320 -> 32:46.480] When it's live doesn't have commercials.
[32:46.480 -> 32:49.160] So it's not legitimate ads, but it's all ad placement.
[32:49.440 -> 32:53.500] And also Heineken is going to be the representing sponsor
[32:53.680 -> 32:55.520] for race previews and recaps.
[32:55.580 -> 32:59.040] And this is coming in as mother's polish has been the staple presenting
[32:59.040 -> 33:02.760] sponsor for ESPN and F1 and Mercedes is now coming in and replacing that.
[33:02.880 -> 33:11.980] So it's bigger, I would argue to say more recognizable brands to the regular everyday person are getting involved in these platforms
[33:11.980 -> 33:20.620] that are making F1 more exposed to the American viewership basis. So not only is ESPN reinforcing
[33:20.620 -> 33:25.280] their interest and wanting to like maintain their power in the viewership rights of
[33:25.280 -> 33:30.480] F1 in America, but they also are then using, connecting to other corporations and other
[33:30.480 -> 33:36.160] brands that are also, if not already invested, want to continue being like part of the stage
[33:36.160 -> 33:45.800] of F1 in America. Yeah, well nothing shows a change in demographic more than going from mother's polish to big brands like Mercedes
[33:45.800 -> 33:55.720] and Heineken. I think sometimes brands when they advertise, they're like, oh, well, everyone
[33:55.720 -> 34:02.600] watching a car race is obviously a car person. And I'm I know that lots of people watching
[34:02.600 -> 34:07.560] F1 are not car people. They're just, but I do know that they're relatively young
[34:07.560 -> 34:09.440] and affluent overall.
[34:09.440 -> 34:10.780] That's the general thing.
[34:10.780 -> 34:14.180] So you're telling, so that sounds like Mercedes-Benz
[34:14.180 -> 34:15.840] and Heineken beer.
[34:15.840 -> 34:19.040] That feels like two brands that ESPN did a great job
[34:19.040 -> 34:21.120] selling those sponsorship rights.
[34:22.460 -> 34:24.380] They also have a new post race show.
[34:28.800 -> 34:35.600] Which, so they're giving F1 again, because if they're investing all this money into broadcasting rights, they want to supplement it. All of ESPN's show
[34:35.600 -> 34:41.200] content is basically designed to funnel you to the live television. You know, whether it's NFL
[34:41.200 -> 34:45.440] Live is designed to get you to watch Monday Night Football.
[34:51.600 -> 34:52.720] Like all of their basketball shows are designed to get you to watch basketball coverage. Shocker.
[34:58.480 -> 35:05.000] But so now they're investing in building those shows out for F1, including this new post race show. So I was wondering, I was wondering if I could say words and I could talk.
[35:05.000 -> 35:07.000] I don't care. I don't need it.
[35:07.000 -> 35:10.000] I just, you know, like when it's just your tongue just...
[35:10.000 -> 35:11.000] All right.
[35:11.000 -> 35:13.000] Uh-huh.
[35:13.000 -> 35:18.000] So I thought it was really cool, their post race show, because it really just felt like F1 Sports Center.
[35:18.000 -> 35:22.000] They had Spencer Hall go up and do power rankings.
[35:22.000 -> 35:28.000] They talked about it. Right, they had giant screens calling guests,
[35:28.000 -> 35:34.160] they brought on F1 Tony, but it really felt like the ESPN treatment. And this is something that
[35:34.160 -> 35:41.440] the space was really missing. Most of the coverage of English speaking coverage of F1
[35:47.600 -> 35:52.000] English-speaking coverage of F1 comes from England, and it's very British. And I watch a lot of that coverage, and I enjoy a lot of that coverage.
[35:52.000 -> 35:57.320] But until I sat there and I watched an ESPN studio show about F1, I didn't realize how
[35:57.320 -> 36:01.320] much this was missing in this space, because it just felt so normal.
[36:01.320 -> 36:05.600] I was like, wow, I get this for every other one of my sports?
[36:05.600 -> 36:13.440] Why am I not getting, like, why don't I have a Mina Kimes F1? She's an NFL commentator,
[36:13.440 -> 36:19.280] by the way, if you're not an NFL fan. What were your thoughts about the ESPN show?
[36:19.280 -> 36:26.560] So I love ESPN, on all the time. It's's literally it's on my TV in my living room right now because
[36:26.560 -> 36:32.560] Parker, that's what I leave on for my dog when I'm not home. It's always basically all the time in my
[36:32.560 -> 36:39.440] house. So when ESPN announced this continued deal with F1, I was really excited because I just knew
[36:39.440 -> 36:52.480] that especially with a larger investment in this deal that ESPN is paying more, they're going to do more with it. So I enjoyed the post race show. I felt like it was so normal and part of my everyday routine.
[36:52.480 -> 36:56.240] And now with one of my favorite pieces that the like, finally, I've been waiting and waiting and
[36:56.240 -> 37:01.200] waiting for this like platform to talk about it because I know that it's a good fit. I know that
[37:01.200 -> 37:10.400] it makes sense to be there. And then as you and I talked about, it just felt so comforting of just, you know, starting this race show and seeing all the ESPN
[37:10.400 -> 37:16.160] fonts and the ESPN stage setup, and just having such a familiarity with not only the content,
[37:16.160 -> 37:21.520] but now seeing it where I've seen, like you said, every other sport I love be applied to.
[37:22.080 -> 37:27.460] So as an American fan, being able to consume F1 in just the traditional
[37:27.460 -> 37:31.120] format that I'm consuming the rest of my content when I feel like I'm already putting so much
[37:31.120 -> 37:38.480] effort elsewhere to like gain F1 content, just be able to be like, Sports Center! Oh,
[37:38.480 -> 37:45.840] there's 60 seconds about Bahrain! Like it's or something like really wild. It's normal. Yeah, it's normal.
[37:45.840 -> 37:49.940] I do think this is a really big evolutionary step
[37:49.940 -> 37:51.940] on F1's growth in America.
[37:51.940 -> 37:55.160] I think we saw that Drive to Survive
[37:55.160 -> 37:57.820] can only spark things for so long.
[37:57.820 -> 38:00.000] And I think like you need,
[38:00.000 -> 38:02.840] then you need social content for people to access.
[38:02.840 -> 38:05.180] And slowly F1 has been building out
[38:05.180 -> 38:08.580] very social first content and the teams.
[38:08.580 -> 38:11.220] And then if you want to reach more
[38:11.220 -> 38:13.360] of an American general public,
[38:13.360 -> 38:15.920] talking about it on SportsCenter and First Take
[38:15.920 -> 38:18.240] and having a post race show and having these things
[38:18.240 -> 38:21.240] that the general American public are used to having
[38:21.240 -> 38:29.440] for their sports content is an important growth step for just F1 in America.
[38:30.240 -> 38:34.640] And I do think, going back to one of the original points I made when I was talking about US
[38:34.640 -> 38:40.240] Bureauship, there's a lot of predictions of like, well, is this the ceiling? Can this grow? And I
[38:40.240 -> 38:46.140] think this would be the ceiling if F1 wasn't working with their partners like ESPN to do things like this.
[38:46.780 -> 38:50.680] You, if you were just saying, all right, we're just gonna keep doing Drive to Survive,
[38:50.680 -> 38:54.140] and we're gonna keep doing the same social content we're doing, and that's it.
[38:54.140 -> 38:57.820] And then maybe we add an American Race, then, uh,
[38:58.520 -> 39:00.260] then we will be at the ceiling.
[39:00.260 -> 39:05.000] But I think we're seeing signs all over the place beyond just ESPN that F1's like,
[39:05.000 -> 39:09.000] no, no, no, we're going to keep pushing towards an American audience.
[39:09.000 -> 39:12.000] Can't wait to one day be out somewhere and be able to say like,
[39:12.000 -> 39:17.000] Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen, and like regular people or traditionally
[39:17.000 -> 39:21.000] non-F1 fans aren't like, who? Because it's crazy that that's like,
[39:21.000 -> 39:24.000] you can say just those two names and there's people in America who don't know
[39:24.000 -> 39:30.000] who that is. But with things like that on ESPN, then like, it'll just become
[39:30.960 -> 39:36.960] in-house language. I want someone to text me, oh my gosh, did you see the video Lance Stroll posts?
[39:39.280 -> 39:44.320] That's not me. Wait, I was more saying like a general like sports watcher.
[39:45.800 -> 39:48.160] Wait, I was more saying like a general like sports watcher. And it's been a big Lance weekend.
[39:48.160 -> 39:54.520] So as I was saying, like, I mean, I have lots of friends and family who are sports fans.
[39:54.520 -> 39:58.880] It would be wild if one of them texted me, oh my gosh, what's going on with Lance Stroll
[39:58.880 -> 40:01.720] because SportsCenter talked about it or something.
[40:01.720 -> 40:02.920] That did not happen.
[40:02.920 -> 40:06.320] But there was way more Lance talk than I am used to.
[40:06.960 -> 40:15.520] I'm used to just being this like niche fan over here thing that's happening. My entire social
[40:15.520 -> 40:27.140] media feed was first spending the entire pre-race and race debating whether or not he should be in the car. And then Tuesday he releases an incredibly vulnerable
[40:27.140 -> 40:37.980] video about his 12 days to get ready for that race post-surgery. I'm still like... it was
[40:37.980 -> 40:43.320] just a very emotional, vulnerable video. And again, Lance Shrule is not a driver who puts
[40:43.320 -> 40:47.320] that kind of content out on social media. I'm still processing
[40:47.600 -> 40:48.720] what's going through your head.
[40:49.040 -> 40:52.280] Yeah, before I had sent you that video yesterday, when I opened
[40:52.280 -> 40:55.160] Instagram, I'm like, this is Lance. This is a video of
[40:55.160 -> 40:58.760] Lance. This is a long caption. Oh, this is the whole story of
[40:58.760 -> 41:00.480] everything that actually happened. And like the
[41:00.480 -> 41:04.160] questions that everyone's been asking of what went down. And it
[41:04.160 -> 41:07.000] was documented just so intimately
[41:07.000 -> 41:11.040] and watching him go through all of the rehab,
[41:11.040 -> 41:13.840] physical therapy, and just the like medical
[41:13.840 -> 41:17.880] procedure preparation, I really admire him a lot.
[41:17.880 -> 41:20.200] I just don't know how he did it.
[41:20.200 -> 41:22.440] One of my best friends last year got into an accident,
[41:22.440 -> 41:30.480] broke his wrist, had to get screws and everything. It's ugly. It was ugly. It's a horrible, horrible experience. And he was
[41:30.480 -> 41:33.680] so limited in what he could do. And Lance is-
[41:33.680 -> 41:35.600] Drove an F1 car.
[41:35.600 -> 41:37.840] And drove an F1 car. When I just-
[41:37.840 -> 41:40.320] And beat George Russell.
[41:40.320 -> 41:44.880] Right. And I just want to be like, Lance, I am worried about you. I'm not going to tell,
[41:44.880 -> 41:46.280] like, you do, you are a big boy. You do whatever you want to do. But I just want to be like, Lance, I am worried about you. I'm not going to tell like you do, you are a big boy.
[41:46.280 -> 41:47.560] You do whatever you want to do.
[41:47.680 -> 41:52.320] But I was like, so nervous watching that video and knowing like, oh my God,
[41:52.400 -> 41:54.960] look at him. He's now going to get in a car and drive.
[41:54.960 -> 41:58.240] Like it is unbelievable.
[41:58.240 -> 42:02.000] The determination that that video really showed that he had.
[42:02.760 -> 42:09.920] I, um, it really got me thinking about how, like, we don't get that
[42:09.920 -> 42:15.680] kind of access to Lance normally. He doesn't do a lot of interviews. He doesn't share on social
[42:15.680 -> 42:26.400] media. And like collectively, the value that that has, the amount of people on social media who do not normally empathize
[42:26.400 -> 42:31.180] or relate to Lance in any way, who were feeling those feelings because of what he shared on
[42:31.180 -> 42:40.480] social media, it did feel like a moment of, at least for me with my marketing brain, of
[42:40.480 -> 42:46.880] really seeing the value in being present on social media and the brands that drivers
[42:46.880 -> 42:55.280] are building on it from a driver who doesn't normally do that. Yeah, and it was, it did feel
[42:55.280 -> 43:00.160] like a shift. It was unique and special. I also was at the point where, you know what, Lance showed
[43:00.160 -> 43:08.000] up. They said he was racing, he raced, and like at the post-race media, that was the conversation that it was going to be.
[43:08.000 -> 43:18.000] But it was clear that this whole situation was so impactful on Lance that not only did he want to make a statement on his own personal accounts in a way that provided a lot of information,
[43:18.000 -> 43:25.600] whether he made that decision, people within his team made that decision, also just being able to acknowledge and bring attention to
[43:25.600 -> 43:29.760] the medical team that helped him through the whole thing. Because that's a huge obvious
[43:29.760 -> 43:34.760] piece of all of this, of the people that were also working behind him that were like, okay,
[43:34.760 -> 43:40.440] you are this determination and crazy to be able to want to do this, but we'll help you
[43:40.440 -> 43:48.160] get there. So it was, it was a real internal different side of Lance that I have
[43:48.160 -> 43:56.160] never seen. I can say totally different. Did not recognize him. Definitely gave, um, gave him some
[43:56.160 -> 44:02.160] extra Brownie points for me. All right, Nicole, time to wrap up the show for this week. First
[44:02.160 -> 44:06.400] race like post race week pod. Post race week pod,
[44:06.400 -> 44:11.080] sounds good. So yellow sector notes, not the fastest walk around F1 but we will complete
[44:11.080 -> 44:16.080] a full lap around the paddock hitting every F1 garage. Starting out this week with Ginger
[44:16.080 -> 44:20.240] Spice's husband comparing drive to survive to keeping up with the Kardashians in Bloomberg,
[44:20.240 -> 44:29.620] which is a sentence I never thought I would utter. Ferrari completed a tire test for Pirelli after the Grand Prix, so they just got home.
[44:29.620 -> 44:33.820] There's so much information and misinformation coming out about Mercedes, so the only note
[44:33.820 -> 44:37.100] I have about them is, can someone tell me if everything's okay?
[44:37.100 -> 44:38.100] Please?
[44:38.100 -> 44:39.100] Thank you.
[44:39.100 -> 44:46.240] Your attempt to bond with Nico Rosberg over not getting along with your teammates.
[44:49.200 -> 44:49.920] Oscar Piastri was a camera for Google Maps this week.
[44:54.560 -> 44:55.600] Okay, this is the McLaren Google partnership is unbelievable. Everyone go check this out.
[44:55.600 -> 44:56.400] This video is great.
[44:56.400 -> 44:58.080] Oscar walks around with a camera on his head,
[44:58.080 -> 45:02.080] and now you can also go into the McLaren HQ in Street View.
[45:02.080 -> 45:03.440] So great idea.
