[00:00.000 -> 00:12.600] Welcome to the second episode of Fan Fiction Podcast.
[00:12.600 -> 00:16.920] First episode, if you've not checked it out, go check us out on your favorite streaming
[00:16.920 -> 00:18.000] platform.
[00:18.000 -> 00:20.160] We are out also on YouTube.
[00:20.160 -> 00:27.000] The first episode, our pilot episode was about the year 2020, the unusual and the usual things that happened in that year.
[00:27.000 -> 00:31.000] Today, we are back. I'm your host, Akash.
[00:31.000 -> 00:32.000] And I'm Saran.
[00:32.000 -> 00:36.000] And we'll be talking about libraries in 2021.
[00:36.000 -> 00:49.400] Every year, these teams come out with new designs, new colors, try to be creative. And that's what we are going to talk about, how 2021 is what we think about these libraries, what's
[00:49.400 -> 00:53.400] changed, what's not, and walk you through our thoughts.
[00:53.400 -> 00:57.200] Before we begin, Sarang, I think we
[00:57.200 -> 01:04.640] should spend two minutes on the legend that has passed away
[01:04.640 -> 01:06.800] two days back, Murray Walker.
[01:06.800 -> 01:11.400] Although not from our timeline, this guy has been a legend.
[01:11.400 -> 01:16.900] We've seen his videos, his comic timings, his enthusiasm.
[01:16.900 -> 01:22.700] As an F1 fan, no one can deny he's been one of the greatest commentators.
[01:22.700 -> 01:27.420] The iconic moment with Damon Hill crossing the finish line, him speaking
[01:27.960 -> 01:34.240] continuously for two minutes, only to end his commentary by saying, I think I should stop now because I've got a lump in my throat.
[01:35.380 -> 01:42.000] I've never seen, I've never heard a commentator say that. He's also been quirky in a sense of
[01:42.680 -> 01:44.680] introducing Murrayism, right? Because
[01:47.600 -> 01:53.600] also been quirky in a sense of introducing Murrayism, right? Because he gets so involved in his flow of talking that he forgets what he's saying and it's just pure enthusiasm flowing out.
[01:53.600 -> 01:58.640] And I remember this famous interview with Bernie Eccleston where he ends up asking him,
[01:58.640 -> 02:03.040] Hey Bernie, how do you feel about buying Mercedes? Only to which Bernie replies,
[02:03.040 -> 02:05.400] I don't remember buying Mercedes.
[02:05.400 -> 02:07.120] And he realizes what he's done.
[02:09.640 -> 02:12.720] Your words and your thoughts on Murray.
[02:13.880 -> 02:18.880] Yeah, so I'm quite saddened by this news,
[02:18.920 -> 02:21.720] though I never really got the opportunity
[02:21.720 -> 02:24.360] to listen to him live in any of the races,
[02:24.360 -> 02:29.620] but yeah, I've certainly heard his commentary in a couple of old videos of
[02:29.620 -> 02:32.660] races and my love is enthusiasm.
[02:33.000 -> 02:38.320] And I can only imagine, you know, watching races while he, he commenting
[02:38.320 -> 02:44.780] those and making every viewer live through the race, putting each viewer in
[02:44.780 -> 02:45.720] the driver's seat.
[02:45.720 -> 02:46.720] Yeah.
[02:46.720 -> 02:49.160] And yeah, I can only imagine.
[02:49.160 -> 02:54.440] And yeah, as you said about Murrayism, I mean, he was a different guy.
[02:54.440 -> 03:01.400] It was a very surprising thing I recently learned about him was that he used to actually
[03:01.400 -> 03:06.780] do his day job while actually commenting in broadcasts and he was
[03:06.780 -> 03:13.580] working full-time right up till the age of 59 when he quit his day job because
[03:13.580 -> 03:18.480] he realized that he just cannot continue both of these things together from here on.
[03:18.480 -> 03:47.440] That's some dedication to the sport. Exactly. Jinx on that. Exactly. Yeah. So, yeah, it's a huge loss for the sport. Though, I'm saddened by this. And I hope that everybody remembers him. And he lives on, the last past month, we've seen teams come out
[03:47.440 -> 03:50.920] with libraries, some exciting, some not so much.
[03:50.920 -> 03:52.720] What are your overall thoughts?
[03:52.720 -> 03:59.920] Oh, well, this year, there were a lot of teams which were having a lot of changes.
[03:59.920 -> 04:06.240] And I was quite excited to see these changes from these teams, primarily to think about there
[04:06.240 -> 04:13.200] were two teams who were changing their name, one being Racing Point, which is now Ashton Martin
[04:13.200 -> 04:20.640] Racing, and the other being Renault, which is now going to be rebranded as Renault Group's
[04:20.640 -> 04:27.200] sports brand called Alpine. And both of these teams have really delivered.
[04:27.200 -> 04:30.120] So yeah, I'm quite happy about that.
[04:30.120 -> 04:33.560] Other than that, some of the teams which we know
[04:33.560 -> 04:36.120] haven't surprised us much in the previous years,
[04:36.120 -> 04:38.640] and they still have it in this year.
[04:38.640 -> 04:41.720] So yeah, it's a mixed bag, I would say.
[04:41.720 -> 04:43.520] Yeah, same thoughts here.
[04:43.520 -> 04:47.200] I was looking forward to the new teams coming in
[04:47.200 -> 04:50.560] because new colors, new creativity
[04:50.560 -> 04:52.040] that would come in with them.
[04:52.040 -> 04:55.720] They have not underwhelmed me, at least.
[04:56.560 -> 04:59.160] One thing I'd like to point out probably
[04:59.160 -> 05:01.640] for the listeners here is,
[05:01.640 -> 05:04.080] out of muscle memory, old habit,
[05:04.080 -> 05:06.480] call it whatever you will, I may still end up
[05:06.480 -> 05:10.600] calling these teams Racing Point or Renault.
[05:10.600 -> 05:12.720] And I promise, over time, I'm going
[05:12.720 -> 05:16.320] to make it a habit to not call them that.
[05:16.320 -> 05:19.080] So actually, it's not just you.
[05:19.080 -> 05:23.960] I mean, I have still heard so many commentators still
[05:23.960 -> 05:29.280] refer to now Aston Martin as the old force India.
[05:29.280 -> 05:33.120] So, you are just one ownership behind.
[05:33.120 -> 05:43.520] You know, it's one of those times where January, you are supposed to change the calendar year but you are still writing down the older year.
[05:43.520 -> 05:46.960] It's that place where my mind is right now.
[05:48.120 -> 05:52.200] Um, but picking up the first theme in, in following what was last
[05:52.200 -> 05:54.240] year's constructor list, Mercedes.
[05:54.400 -> 05:55.240] Thoughts on Mercedes,
[05:55.720 -> 05:56.400] Mercedes.
[05:56.440 -> 05:56.800] Okay.
[05:56.800 -> 06:02.020] So 2020 Mercedes livery was, as we had discussed last time, uh, was quite a bit
[06:02.020 -> 06:06.240] of a surprise where they're changed from the silver color that they
[06:06.240 -> 06:11.680] have retained for so many years and that gained them the name of silver arrows and it was quite a
[06:11.680 -> 06:19.040] drastic shift to move away from that color moving to black and I somewhat had my doubts that they
[06:19.040 -> 06:26.640] might not continue the black considering that how many years they have spent in in adopting the color silver
[06:27.440 -> 06:33.440] though I'm kind of glad that they did not change it back to silver and they have retained the
[06:34.400 -> 06:43.200] the black color so I'm quite glad about that though I'm a little disappointed by the
[06:55.560 -> 07:06.880] I'm a little disappointed by the rear of the car, where they have transitioned it a little into silver and the whole AMG vomit that they have spread all over the rear. So yeah, I'm a little unhappy about that. I don't know. What are your thoughts about it? Yeah, no, that's true. I think I was joking with you earlier.
[07:06.880 -> 07:11.160] It feels like there were already stencils sliding down
[07:11.160 -> 07:14.000] the bodywork with paint continuously dripping
[07:14.000 -> 07:14.840] from the top.
[07:14.840 -> 07:17.680] And then someone said, yeah, we've got 100 AMGs.
[07:17.680 -> 07:18.560] Yeah, for sure.
[07:18.560 -> 07:19.640] Let's leave it there.
[07:19.640 -> 07:22.880] Oh, just for good measure, let's put one right
[07:22.880 -> 07:25.880] on top of the front wheels as well so that someone missed their air.
[07:25.880 -> 07:26.880] Let's have it on the front.
[07:26.880 -> 07:34.720] And to top it off, I think there's this eye-catching red on the air intake, which is also a bit
[07:34.720 -> 07:35.720] weird, right?
[07:35.720 -> 07:36.720] Oh, yeah.
[07:36.720 -> 07:41.320] Ah, the red just sticks out like a sore thumb.
[07:41.320 -> 07:46.840] I can't imagine whoever came up with that design, though I think it's more
[07:46.840 -> 07:54.600] got to do with sponsorships. They had to highlight their title sponsor, which is Ineos now. And
[07:54.600 -> 08:00.040] so yeah, so I think that's the reason why they have featured Red at their air intake.
[08:00.040 -> 08:05.720] So yeah, one thing which I wanted to talk about was, if you remember, there was this tweet
[08:05.720 -> 08:09.960] that the Mercedes official Twitter handle had tweeted out,
[08:09.960 -> 08:12.200] where they had posted an image
[08:12.200 -> 08:14.920] of a super zoomed photo of the car,
[08:14.920 -> 08:17.240] which featured the red star,
[08:17.240 -> 08:19.000] which they have added onto the car
[08:19.000 -> 08:21.200] as a tribute to a Nicolada.
[08:21.200 -> 08:26.880] And it seemed like a really cool photo with you know black background and the
[08:26.880 -> 08:32.560] red star which really looked something out of Star Wars and I was super excited about that but
[08:32.560 -> 08:38.560] I was knowing Mercedes I somehow had the feeling that they are not gonna deliver on that
[08:39.680 -> 08:49.000] and and yeah they didn't but yeah it's still not a bad car. Being the champions that they are, there were a lot of rumors going on on reddit that I'd seen
[08:49.000 -> 08:58.000] where people were talking about they might add some confetti to their car in celebration of their 7th championship.
[08:58.000 -> 09:04.000] Yeah I'd love to see that man. It would be like a birthday party going car with some vomit of AMG on the back.
[09:04.000 -> 09:07.560] Oh my god, too much to drink.
[09:07.560 -> 09:09.600] That seems like one heck of a party.
[09:09.600 -> 09:13.120] I wish it was there.
[09:13.120 -> 09:15.360] But we joked about this offline as well, right?
[09:15.360 -> 09:19.920] We were like, why not just give Mercedes the Drivers Constructors
[09:19.920 -> 09:22.240] Championship with Hamilton there?
[09:22.240 -> 09:26.720] And let the other race. And let's move on, right?
[09:26.720 -> 09:36.640] Yeah. I wish that was not the case and we didn't have to talk about things like this.
[09:36.640 -> 09:41.520] Alright, let's not and then move to Red Bull in that case.
[09:41.520 -> 09:49.240] Alright, Red Bull. Red Bull, I mean, my two cents there is, there isn't changing anything.
[09:49.240 -> 09:54.000] It's the same car, I think they are spending all of their resources, time and money into
[09:54.000 -> 09:58.760] the under the hood of the car and not what it shows out.
[09:58.760 -> 10:10.400] Yep, I mean Red Bull, I think they have spent years forming that brand and the way they have made
[10:10.400 -> 10:17.540] Red Bull into this huge energy sports drink conglomerate that it is now is solely on the
[10:17.540 -> 10:24.760] basis of this branding that they have plastered over all series of sports that they participate
[10:24.760 -> 10:25.120] in and it's a very huge directory if you take a look at it. have plastered over all series of sports that they participate in.
[10:25.200 -> 10:29.480] And it's a very huge directory if you take a look at it.
[10:29.520 -> 10:33.400] And I am not at all surprised that they haven't changed the livery,
[10:33.600 -> 10:36.960] even the slightest, because that's Red Bull.
[10:37.200 -> 10:39.920] They are a very lean team.
[10:40.320 -> 10:46.000] They, I think they have a clear focus of trying to win the championship
[10:46.000 -> 10:49.600] and I think that's what they spend all their energies on.
[10:49.600 -> 10:53.680] Right. Yeah, there isn't much to discuss about Red Bull's library.
[10:53.680 -> 10:59.360] It is, besides some team changes and maybe some engineering changes, there isn't much happening on them.
[10:59.360 -> 11:04.800] Yeah, the one thing I really miss is the testing library that they used to have earlier.
[11:04.800 -> 11:05.180] If you remember that they used to have earlier.
[11:05.180 -> 11:08.480] If you remember that they used to have these camo libraries
[11:08.480 -> 11:12.880] and I miss, I feel that it was a missed opportunity.
[11:12.880 -> 11:16.140] I understand that they want to continue their branding,
[11:16.140 -> 11:19.300] but yeah, they could have done something special for testing.
[11:20.640 -> 11:23.960] But I mean, staying closer to last year's library,
[11:23.960 -> 11:25.520] next on the list is McLaren.
[11:25.520 -> 11:35.960] Again, not many changes there. Though, the blue is now more eye-catching than it was last year, as compared to the only orange.
[11:35.960 -> 11:41.220] So, the cameras are definitely not going to miss the blue, even if they miss the orange.
[11:41.220 -> 11:43.600] Because they are quite complementary colors.
[11:43.600 -> 11:47.600] What are your thoughts with
[11:47.600 -> 11:56.000] McLaren? Oh yeah, well McLaren I think it's pretty much the same looking car with slight changes with
[11:56.000 -> 12:02.800] how the blue is applied under the car. One change that I see is that they've added a small rainbow
[12:02.800 -> 12:05.520] near the side part towards the rear.
[12:05.520 -> 12:08.680] And I think that's probably more aligned with the We Race
[12:08.680 -> 12:11.880] as one initiative that Formula One has taken up.
[12:11.880 -> 12:14.560] And obviously, if you have noticed,
[12:14.560 -> 12:17.240] there are a lot more sponsors on the car this year.
[12:17.240 -> 12:20.760] Zac Brown has been a magnet for sponsors
[12:20.760 -> 12:22.320] ever since he has joined McLaren.
[12:22.320 -> 12:26.200] I feel very soon they're going to run out of space on the car for sponsorships.
[12:26.200 -> 12:38.120] Well, that's true. That nose coming off of the front wheels onto the front wing seems like an Excel column with just a list of sponsors on there.
[12:38.120 -> 12:45.800] But I mean, well, they are bringing in money for new engineering developments which have been showing in the team's progress.
[12:45.800 -> 12:50.000] So, the only positive there is the team's climbing in constructor title.
[12:50.000 -> 12:52.240] Well, that's going good for them.
[12:52.240 -> 12:56.800] Yup. And you can see that in the 2020 result as well.
[12:56.800 -> 12:58.720] So, that's great for them.
[12:58.720 -> 13:10.400] Yeah, right. We spent some good time last episode talking about how McLaren has surprised us so much that we never even expected it to be in the top 4.
[13:10.400 -> 13:15.680] And it's been there, sitting all along. And high hopes from 2021 as well.
[13:15.680 -> 13:21.240] In which case, coming down the list, Aston Martin. The all-new sleek.
[13:21.240 -> 13:25.480] Vettel got a seat there. Stroll Jr. is there.
[13:25.480 -> 13:29.660] The color has been sitting very nicely in my head.
[13:29.660 -> 13:34.000] This is a new team coming back after a long, long time.
[13:34.000 -> 13:39.920] I think what like a 61-year hit is what some Reddit post called it.
[13:39.920 -> 13:40.920] And I was excited to see.
[13:40.920 -> 13:46.500] Because in my head, I don't remember how this team looked like and I was looking forward to the livery.
[13:46.500 -> 13:48.500] Thoughts on Aston Martin?
[13:48.500 -> 13:54.500] Oh yeah, Aston Martin for me personally was the most anticipated livery this season.
[13:54.500 -> 13:57.500] Mainly because of the British Racing Green.
[13:57.500 -> 14:05.660] I have been a fan of the Aston Martin Racing livery from the World Endurance Championship, which has the British Racing Green with the
[14:05.660 -> 14:12.560] lime green accents. And that's one of my favorite liveries. Even like when I, when I play Assetto
[14:12.560 -> 14:20.180] Corsa Competizione, my go-to car is always being Aston Martin V12 with the classic British
[14:20.180 -> 14:25.560] Green livery. So they did not disappoint about that. They came up with the British Racing Green.
[14:25.920 -> 14:30.920] Though one little factoid that I heard about was that they were planning on
[14:31.960 -> 14:34.200] keeping the same livery as the WEC,
[14:34.880 -> 14:37.920] which was Lime Green and British Racing Green.
[14:37.960 -> 14:42.400] And it's quite actually evident from all the merch that's available on the sites
[14:42.400 -> 14:44.560] to buy right now. If you take a look,
[14:44.560 -> 14:46.200] all of the merch that they have has their sites to buy right now. If you take a look, all of the merch that they have
[14:46.200 -> 14:49.200] has those lime green and British racing green colors.
[14:49.200 -> 14:54.000] And rumors say that towards just two or three days before the launch,
[14:54.000 -> 15:00.200] they struck a deal with BWT, the prior title sponsor for Racing Point.
[15:00.200 -> 15:05.280] There were rumors going on that BWT was going to either work with Haas or with Williams
[15:05.280 -> 15:09.040] but it seems that none of these deals came through and
[15:09.680 -> 15:13.120] they came back to Aston Martin and
[15:13.840 -> 15:17.340] Yep, so that's how they put in the
[15:18.240 -> 15:19.560] watermelon
[15:19.560 -> 15:24.480] color back onto the car making it a green and pink car.
[15:28.040 -> 15:33.920] back onto the car, making it a green and pink car. Although that pink there, right, I feel like it, I want to ignore it at one place but I also don't want to because I feel like
[15:33.920 -> 15:39.160] that pink, at least in my eyes, is popping out. A jet green would have just been too
[15:39.160 -> 15:47.060] monotonous but for me that pink is adding that pop and I sort of like it on that front wing and all through running through the body.
[15:47.060 -> 15:51.220] Yeah, this car sits perfectly fine in my head.
[15:51.220 -> 15:53.420] Oh yeah, I do like it as well.
[15:53.420 -> 15:56.100] I had my doubts earlier on when I heard
[15:56.100 -> 15:59.020] that it was most likely going to be green car
[15:59.020 -> 16:01.740] with pink accents because I mean,
[16:01.740 -> 16:07.120] if you try to design a car with those two colors it's going you're gonna have a
[16:07.120 -> 16:13.600] very difficult time making the car look good but kudos to whoever designed it it's quite tasteful
[16:13.600 -> 16:28.760] it's not too jarring it's it blends really well and also the type of paint that they have used that kind of doesn't make the contrast pop out as much for
[16:28.760 -> 16:35.560] those two colors. So yeah overall I am a big fan of the Aston Martin livery
[16:35.560 -> 16:39.880] though it is really simple but sometimes simplicity is the best I would say.
[16:39.880 -> 16:48.000] Yeah, down the list with Alpine hands hands down, favorite car this season, right?
[16:48.000 -> 16:49.000] Oh yeah.
[16:49.000 -> 16:50.960] I was sort of also excited.
[16:50.960 -> 17:00.760] I think they did a mid-vacation black winter livery and then only to reveal this Alpine
[17:00.760 -> 17:07.900] blue design and it definitely did not disappoint with that metallic blue on the
[17:07.900 -> 17:12.820] majority of car and then the streaks of red on the back, just fantastic.
[17:12.820 -> 17:18.820] Oh yeah, I'm a big fan of Alpine's livery this year.
[17:18.820 -> 17:24.280] I personally did also kind of like the olden Renault livery.
[17:24.280 -> 17:29.120] If you had noticed, the Renault livery was designed such that when you look at the car
[17:29.120 -> 17:33.880] from the sides, it looks as yellow and when you look at it from the top, it looks like
[17:33.880 -> 17:34.880] black.
[17:34.880 -> 17:37.720] And that was a pretty cool thing to do.
[17:37.720 -> 17:42.600] And they have still come out with a pretty good livery, integrating the French flag at
[17:42.600 -> 17:43.600] the rear of the car.
[17:43.600 -> 17:47.620] If you have noticed, that's a pretty cool thing. thing the same thing I think they've also done with the
[17:47.620 -> 17:51.500] front wings if you see there are the three colors of the French flag which
[17:51.500 -> 17:57.700] they have painted on the... It's so subtle but like and so creatively done that looks quite clean
[17:57.700 -> 18:07.040] it's quite clean oh yeah for sure again the choice of the paint that they have taken is really great. It's not
[18:07.040 -> 18:13.920] completely in your face shiny metallic paint because with the colors that they have used,
[18:13.920 -> 18:21.840] if that's what they had gone with, it might have been a little too in your face. But I think with
[18:21.840 -> 18:27.720] the satin matte color that they've gone with is excellent choice.
[18:27.720 -> 18:31.600] This complemented perfectly well with the driver's suit,
[18:32.840 -> 18:36.400] which also looks perfectly well in the blue and red.
[18:36.400 -> 18:39.640] So I think full marks to Alpine
[18:39.640 -> 18:43.240] for all the job done on the looks there.
[18:43.240 -> 18:44.960] Yep, yep.
[18:44.960 -> 18:49.480] And I'm quite sure Ocon must be very happy to drive
[18:49.480 -> 18:55.880] the car under the French flag and have his car itself
[18:55.880 -> 18:59.480] to have the theme of the French flag.
[18:59.480 -> 19:02.720] Down the list is Ferrari.
[19:02.720 -> 19:08.400] We will come and address the green in due time because it requires
[19:08.400 -> 19:16.480] its own two minutes of discussion. But before that, the red. The 1000th race anniversary
[19:16.480 -> 19:22.560] that Scuderia had last year got me excited with their dark red livery that they showcased
[19:22.560 -> 19:26.880] and I was actually looking forward to seeing something
[19:26.880 -> 19:34.560] similar this year. I liked how they did bring in sort of that hand-painted number on the back
[19:35.440 -> 19:42.240] with some tinge of that red still coming in from the 1000th Grand Prix at Mugello.
[19:42.240 -> 19:46.000] But overall, thoughts have been still a bit meh,
[19:46.000 -> 19:47.520] because it failed to hit that mark.
[19:47.520 -> 19:49.400] Your thoughts on it.
[19:49.400 -> 19:52.760] Well, Ferrari, no surprises there.
[19:52.760 -> 19:57.680] It's a red car, as it's always been through the years.
[19:57.680 -> 20:03.240] Though I'm not too satisfied with the shade of the red
[20:03.240 -> 20:05.000] that they have chosen this year. The whole transition that they have done from the lighter shade of the red that they have chosen this year.
[20:09.400 -> 20:09.420] The whole transition that they have done from the lighter shade in the front to
[20:14.200 -> 20:14.280] the darker maroon shade at the back is not too appealing.
[20:19.280 -> 20:19.800] So I think that's basically a tribute to the thousand race livery,
[20:24.920 -> 20:25.880] right? But somehow that it doesn't work for me I would say the they should have either
[20:25.880 -> 20:31.560] stuck with either of those two colors it it seems as if I think they're just
[20:31.560 -> 20:37.480] trying to show that they are transitioning into a better car or something
[20:37.480 -> 20:42.960] from the previous car that they had I'm not too happy about it but yeah it is
[20:42.960 -> 20:48.400] what it is well then continue with that note on the green
[20:48.400 -> 20:51.360] that's sitting right in the middle.
[20:51.360 -> 20:54.520] Oh, man, the green.
[20:54.520 -> 20:56.240] I have no words.
[20:56.240 -> 20:59.800] There's so many memes that I saw about the green.
[20:59.800 -> 21:07.920] I saw one where there was this emoji vomiting over the green and that was one of the really
[21:07.920 -> 21:10.920] good memes that I saw.
[21:10.920 -> 21:15.960] Yeah I think that's what that's what's actually probably happened someone just spilled a green
[21:15.960 -> 21:22.600] only to realize hey we've forgotten our sponsor Mission Winnow logo you know what let's just
[21:22.600 -> 21:25.960] carve out some MW in there and make it sound like
[21:25.960 -> 21:29.280] we were creative enough to put it there.
[21:29.280 -> 21:39.720] Oh yeah, well, it was, I feel it was a marketing ploy, which completely worked in their favor.
[21:39.720 -> 21:46.200] They wanted to be able to talk about it and here we are talking about it. So yeah, though this is
[21:46.200 -> 21:49.120] going to be an eye sore to look at throughout the season.
[21:49.120 -> 21:53.720] Yeah, you're gonna probably not notice the number and be like, hey, there is a Ferrari
[21:53.720 -> 21:58.120] driving with that green that I noticed from the camera.
[21:58.120 -> 22:09.000] Oh, yeah. So yeah, Ferrari, disappointment with the livery. I hope they are not disappointed with the car this year.
[22:09.000 -> 22:18.000] AlphaTaur is next on the list. Your thoughts there, Sarenkhize? This time, they've partnered with a fashion brand, I hear.
[22:18.000 -> 22:27.960] And I might be butchering the name, but it's Dyke Rich. Nonetheless, it's a fashion brand, so was hoping to get some more
[22:27.960 -> 22:30.880] fashion-able, in quotes, library.
[22:30.880 -> 22:32.580] Thoughts on their library, Stavan?
[22:33.720 -> 22:35.320] Well, I think overall,
[22:35.320 -> 22:39.920] Alphatauri is new team on the field by name.
[22:39.920 -> 22:42.880] It's a year old in 2020.
[22:42.880 -> 22:46.000] I think basically Tauraraso was was renamed to Alphatauri
[22:46.000 -> 22:51.280] which is a new brand that Red Bull is promoting that's their new fashion brand
[22:51.280 -> 22:57.520] so you know considering Red Bull's policy with their liveries I'm not
[22:57.520 -> 23:01.440] surprised with the livery that Alphatauri has come out with it's pretty much the
[23:01.440 -> 23:05.280] same as last year they have just flipped the colors where they
[23:05.280 -> 23:12.080] flipped between white and blue so no surprises there it was a decent looking car last year still
[23:12.080 -> 23:18.000] a decent looking car this year though personally i'm not that huge a fan of this livery as compared
[23:18.000 -> 23:25.640] to the older toro rosso livery but yeah not bad yeah i mean I saw a few posts saying they had a
[23:26.640 -> 23:28.640] reinvention of colors in
[23:28.880 -> 23:30.200] 2020
[23:30.200 -> 23:33.800] Only to be more fashion branded with 2021
[23:33.800 -> 23:38.080] I sort of agree with that statement for 2020, but I think with 2021
[23:38.080 -> 23:41.240] They've gotten for a cleaner look if you will
[23:41.440 -> 23:49.120] The only positive for me here is they've got that nice-looking Honda logo on the side. Hopefully that partnership continues
[23:49.120 -> 23:54.680] and we get to keep seeing that Honda logo on there. Well then I have got news
[23:54.680 -> 24:00.640] for you. I hope you know about this that Honda is pulling out of the F1
[24:00.640 -> 24:07.800] program right starting year 2023. So Honda is basically pulling out and
[24:07.800 -> 24:15.120] they have struck a deal with Red Bull to partner and hand off all of the Honda
[24:15.120 -> 24:20.520] power unit technology to Red Bull and Red Bull will be basically taking over
[24:20.520 -> 24:25.160] the manufacturing of their engine. Red Bull would basically become a works
[24:25.160 -> 24:29.140] team, which is quite surprising. Who would have thunk that Red Bull would be a
[24:29.140 -> 24:34.460] works team developing their own car, their own engine, their own aerodynamics and
[24:34.460 -> 24:39.800] every single thing. This is definitely news to me. Yeah, because I did not know
[24:39.800 -> 24:44.720] about this. But it's good to see that Red Bull is investing more into the
[24:44.720 -> 24:45.600] business. They see there's good returns and I'm happy to see that Red Bull's investing more into the business. They see
[24:45.600 -> 24:51.440] there's good returns and I'm happy to see that going down, they're going to probably
[24:52.320 -> 24:59.200] be self-independent, probably hoping that it will create more freedom of money and
[24:59.200 -> 25:04.800] engineering resources because of no third-party partnership. Only fingers crossed that they
[25:06.120 -> 25:12.660] because of no third-party partnership. Only fingers crossed that they continue living up to the expectations that Honda has shown us in the last year
[25:12.660 -> 25:20.040] and the quality doesn't die down. But this is exciting and a mixed
[25:20.040 -> 25:24.320] reaction news at least for me and I'm hoping it's the same also for some of
[25:24.320 -> 25:25.200] our listeners here.
[25:25.200 -> 25:32.000] Oh yeah and another thing so in order to enable Red Bull to you know not lose standing while
[25:32.720 -> 25:39.040] completing this transition basically all teams had to come together to do a vote on this and
[25:39.040 -> 25:45.160] this had to be agreed upon by all teams and basically FIA came up with the engine freeze for
[25:45.160 -> 25:54.320] them so I think the engine freeze which was I think going to begin from 2022 is
[25:54.320 -> 25:58.120] going to I think begin at the end of this year basically. So basically
[25:58.120 -> 26:04.080] teams would not be allowed to upgrade their engines and I don't exactly know
[26:04.080 -> 26:05.280] the details about it at the
[26:05.280 -> 26:10.440] moment but there will be restrictions placed on engine development and that
[26:10.440 -> 26:16.480] would give Red Bull an opportunity to slowly ramp up on the
[26:16.480 -> 26:21.720] technologies that Honda has been working hard on for these past years and to
[26:21.720 -> 26:25.740] develop all the machinery and equipment that they require
[26:25.740 -> 26:31.120] to actually produce these engines in their factory and military schemes.
[26:31.120 -> 26:35.760] In which case, I think we'll definitely bring an entire episode towards the end of the season
[26:35.760 -> 26:42.520] for what to expect in terms of changes for F1 going ahead.
[26:42.520 -> 26:47.360] And we'll end up covering this topic in there. So for listeners,
[26:47.360 -> 26:52.160] stay tuned for that episode as well. Coming back to the list, we've now got
[26:52.160 -> 27:02.720] Alfa Romeo. Again, it's on lines with that Alfa Tauri, that Red Bull. Not
[27:02.720 -> 27:05.560] many changes
[27:11.120 -> 27:17.320] Still seems the same old Alfa Romeo if you were to tell me they've even flipped colors or done whatever I wouldn't recognize because it took me five good minutes staring at this car to realize are there any change?
[27:18.540 -> 27:19.640] well
[27:19.640 -> 27:23.880] Alfa Romeo at least for me has been the best-looking car of
[27:24.540 -> 27:25.120] 2020 I have been a huge fan of the Alfa Romeo, at least for me, has been the best looking car of 2020.
[27:25.120 -> 27:30.000] I have been a huge fan of the rear end of the car.
[27:30.000 -> 27:34.360] I'm pretty sure a lot of our fans would conquer with me probably.
[27:34.360 -> 27:40.400] The red that Alfa Romeo uses is just very elegant.
[27:40.400 -> 27:42.080] It's not in your face.
[27:42.080 -> 27:46.640] It has just the right amount of shine to it. And the white and the
[27:46.640 -> 27:53.280] red really complement each other. Yeah, I feel that white changed something that's not broken.
[27:53.280 -> 28:01.120] So I'm completely happy that they did not move away from their livery and have just flipped
[28:01.120 -> 28:05.120] colors and pretty much retained what they had last year
[28:05.320 -> 28:08.480] They did flip colors, right? Yes. Yeah
[28:08.840 -> 28:12.840] Something something did change there and it took me good five minutes to figure that out
[28:12.840 -> 28:20.420] Although what I do like about how they've done their coloring is how they integrate the car the driver number
[28:20.880 -> 28:25.560] into their car, right the way they've put the testing number at least
[28:25.560 -> 28:32.540] in the stock image library photo 12 from Kibitza's car I like how it's not just a
[28:32.540 -> 28:38.600] hand-painted number but like how it blends into the car's library yeah well
[28:38.600 -> 28:46.160] it's still a good-looking car and I hope they have a season just as good as how the car looks
[28:46.160 -> 28:54.240] and fine let's move on to the next one in the list that's Haas.
[28:54.240 -> 29:00.880] controversial team here. Oh well Haas has been stricken with controversy for the
[29:00.880 -> 29:10.680] past couple of years now they have had the whole controversy of rich energy everybody kind of knew about that they are getting a new sponsor this
[29:10.680 -> 29:17.040] year that's the Urakali which is basically I think Nikita Mazapan's dad's
[29:17.040 -> 29:25.720] company so there were rumors flying around that it may feature the colors of the Russian flag well there it
[29:25.720 -> 29:34.020] is. Hey I mean but what about the the cunningness that was depicted where you
[29:34.020 -> 29:40.120] can't have a Russian flag because the anti-doping agency which is after Russia
[29:40.120 -> 29:45.640] because of those reasons is gonna come after after you. But well, I can change my logo color
[29:45.640 -> 29:49.360] so that then you have to put those colors onto your car.
[29:49.360 -> 29:51.400] Wait a minute, coincidentally,
[29:51.400 -> 29:53.480] it looks like the Russian flag.
[29:53.480 -> 29:54.880] I had nothing to do with it.
[29:55.800 -> 29:56.880] What Russian flag?
[29:56.880 -> 29:57.960] I don't know.
[29:57.960 -> 30:01.120] It's my brand logo and my brand colors.
[30:03.800 -> 30:09.840] Oh yeah, I mean mean that was just it's like straight out of a Bond villain's playbook.
[30:11.840 -> 30:17.920] They changed the logo of the company to the Russian flag colors just so that they can
[30:17.920 -> 30:22.160] paint that on the car. Good for them that they got away with it.
[30:22.000 -> 30:24.000] good for them that they got away with it. Though, it's a...
[30:24.000 -> 30:26.000] from terms of
[30:26.000 -> 30:28.000] how it looks, it's a
[30:28.000 -> 30:30.000] okay looking car, I would say
[30:30.000 -> 30:32.000] nothing special. I feel
[30:32.000 -> 30:34.000] it's a lateral move for them
[30:34.000 -> 30:36.000] to go from the previous level to this one.
[30:36.000 -> 30:38.000] Yeah, I'm quite
[30:38.000 -> 30:40.000] neutral about
[30:40.000 -> 30:42.000] their car. Yeah, I'm...
[30:42.000 -> 30:44.000] personally, I am below neutral, because
[30:44.000 -> 30:47.520] I think all the efforts were spent behind
[30:47.520 -> 30:53.680] how to get the Russian colors on there rather than how the car ends up looking. So, my reaction is a
[30:53.680 -> 31:00.640] bit meh about it. Down the list, we've got our last team, Williams, the best looking car in
[31:00.640 -> 31:06.800] my opinion. Thoughts on that, Sara? I really hope that was a cast apart.
[31:06.800 -> 31:16.800] I can neither confirm or deny that. Yeah, well, Williams, I don't know what they have
[31:16.800 -> 31:32.720] done. It looks like they have spilled a lot of paint on the car. I don't know. Now, in all honesty, I'm not a fan of that blue streaks converting to black.
[31:32.720 -> 31:48.360] I'm pretty sure they've got some good reason behind the designs that went through the iterations and then this last one that came back. I think I read somewhere it was supposed to bring back
[31:48.360 -> 31:52.800] a look of Nigel Mansell's 1992 winning livery.
[31:52.800 -> 31:53.640] Oh.
[31:53.640 -> 31:56.000] But they could have.
[31:56.000 -> 31:57.280] That's a really beautiful car.
[31:57.280 -> 32:00.560] Yeah, they could have done a better job
[32:00.560 -> 32:02.720] with those blue streaks.
[32:02.720 -> 32:06.720] Yeah, more than, less than a mare reaction for me.
[32:07.360 -> 32:15.680] Yeah, I mean, the car, I feel Williams, in terms of the livery, their peak was the 2018
[32:15.680 -> 32:26.000] Martini livery that they had, which was really beautiful. I sorely miss the Martini colors on the track these days.
[32:26.000 -> 32:33.000] I really wish they hadn't gone from that to the Colgate
[32:33.000 -> 32:36.560] livery that they had last year.
[32:36.560 -> 32:39.880] This child painted livery that they have this year.
[32:39.880 -> 32:44.240] I don't know what's happened to them, but fine.
[32:44.240 -> 32:45.360] So let's do this.
[32:45.360 -> 32:50.200] Let's go down the list, continuing our episode 1's
[32:50.200 -> 32:53.200] tradition of rating things.
[32:53.200 -> 32:57.720] But before we do that and reveal our top 10 individually,
[32:57.720 -> 33:02.640] I want to ask listeners to pause here, comment down your top 10,
[33:02.640 -> 33:07.000] and then start playing and see where we've matched with our cards.
[33:07.000 -> 33:12.480] It would be pretty interesting to see what everybody else's opinion is about these liveries
[33:12.480 -> 33:13.480] as well.
[33:13.480 -> 33:14.480] Exactly, exactly.
[33:14.480 -> 33:20.800] Okay, what's my best and least favorite liveries?
[33:20.800 -> 33:28.240] And let me go in the reverse order for this. So on number 10 for me would be Williams.
[33:28.240 -> 33:33.560] Not a fan of what they've done with the car this year. I wish they had executed
[33:33.560 -> 33:40.200] the plan better of having the classic livery because that was a really good
[33:40.200 -> 33:49.540] looking car and the car that they've presented doesn't really resemble that one. So for that I put them on the last place. On ninth place for me is
[33:49.540 -> 33:58.180] Ferrari. The primary reason being Ferrari has one of the most iconic liveries that
[33:58.180 -> 34:08.400] they have had for several years and I'm not a fan of the gradient that they have added for the two shades
[34:08.400 -> 34:13.500] of red and the very ugly green that they have added at the top of the air intake
[34:13.500 -> 34:19.780] for that they are on number nine. Number eight for me is Alphatauri. Nothing
[34:19.780 -> 34:27.600] wrong with the livery per se. I personally am not that big a fan of this livery. To me it looks like
[34:27.600 -> 34:34.960] somebody wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans and yeah I kind of miss the Toro Rosso colors.
[34:34.960 -> 34:42.960] On number seven for me is Haas. Again some points deducted for being unsportsmanlike and
[34:47.320 -> 34:53.160] for being unsportsmanlike and finding loopholes to introduce the Russian flag into their livery. Apart from that it's a pretty standard looking livery for that
[34:53.160 -> 34:59.160] reason that's number seven on my list. Number six I wish I had placed this team
[34:59.160 -> 35:06.040] higher up on the list is Mercedes. I am a huge fan of the first half of the car I would give it 10
[35:06.040 -> 35:11.960] out of 10 and then something goes terribly wrong at the rear and for that
[35:11.960 -> 35:16.880] reason it's number 5 on my sorry number 6 on my list. Number 5 would be
[35:16.880 -> 35:23.000] McLaren pretty similar to what they had last year. The papaya orange is one of my
[35:23.000 -> 35:25.360] favorite colors on the track though I'm
[35:25.360 -> 35:32.060] not that big of a fan of the blue on the car. I really love the older Mercedes
[35:32.060 -> 35:37.400] livery that they had and I think back in 2018 which was pretty much just papaya
[35:37.400 -> 35:42.800] orange and black which looked really good. On number four for me is Red Bull.
[35:42.800 -> 35:46.000] I've been a fan of that livery for years now.
[35:46.000 -> 35:52.000] Ever since Vettel was in Red Bull, they have always had these colors.
[35:52.000 -> 35:56.000] I will sorely miss the day when those colors disappear from the track.
[35:56.000 -> 36:01.000] Yeah, for me it does fall in the top 5.
[36:01.000 -> 36:06.720] On number 3 would be Alfa Romeo. I have been a huge fan of the Alfa Romeo red
[36:06.720 -> 36:14.160] for many years. The red and white combination is simply beautiful, very clean design and very
[36:14.160 -> 36:23.600] elegant. On number two is definitely Aston Martin racing. The return of the British racing green
[36:23.600 -> 36:26.360] back on the track is a huge plus
[36:26.360 -> 36:31.800] for me. The color looks beautiful given the constraints that they had with their
[36:31.800 -> 36:37.840] sponsorships with BWT where they had to have the pink colors on the car. They
[36:37.840 -> 36:42.560] have done a beautiful job of integrating the pink with the green which to think
[36:42.560 -> 36:45.000] of it are really complementary colors
[36:45.000 -> 36:51.160] and they shouldn't go together well and on the top of my list as I had mentioned
[36:51.160 -> 36:57.640] earlier as well is Alpine with beautiful satin matte blue and the integration of
[36:57.640 -> 37:03.600] the French colors, French flag colors at the rear. I'm in love with that car.
[37:03.600 -> 37:06.000] What about you, Akash?
[37:06.000 -> 37:12.520] Definitely. The reasons are pretty much similar to what yours are and what we've discussed
[37:12.520 -> 37:20.600] throughout the episode. The 10th spot goes to Williams for all those reasons. After that
[37:20.600 -> 37:26.720] is Hask, because of all the controversy and the flat paint and anything that's on there.
[37:27.760 -> 37:30.640] After that at 8th for me is McLaren.
[37:30.760 -> 37:33.200] Only because they didn't change things much.
[37:33.440 -> 37:42.520] The orange did catch my eye but there wasn't something extraordinarily that I liked about it.
[37:42.720 -> 37:45.400] It could have gone up the list, but yeah,
[37:45.600 -> 37:52.960] the other cars caught my a bit more. Above McLaren at position 7 is Ferrari. I sort of like that
[37:53.560 -> 37:54.920] thousand year,
[37:54.920 -> 38:01.320] thousand race color that they've brought in. If I just keep a hand over my eye to ignore the green,
[38:01.760 -> 38:12.360] I'm fine with the car. I would have just hoped to see the prancing horse a bit more, a bigger prancing horse on that car but well I'm
[38:12.360 -> 38:16.800] fine with it. Next up the list for me is Red Bull, why
[38:16.800 -> 38:21.840] change something that's been working for years? I love that ideology, the car looks
[38:21.840 -> 38:26.960] good. No comments there. Up that list is Alfa Tauri. I like, I like the ideology, the car looks good. No comments there. That list is Alfa Tauri.
[38:26.960 -> 38:29.840] I like the change, the flatter look
[38:29.840 -> 38:32.760] with the fashion design brand sort of coming
[38:32.760 -> 38:35.720] in to do those minor tweaks.
[38:35.720 -> 38:39.640] So that's sitting for me at spot number five.
[38:39.640 -> 38:42.560] Four is Merc, because I do like to see
[38:42.560 -> 38:44.480] a black car on that track.
[38:44.480 -> 38:47.680] I did think about AMG spilling on the back.
[38:47.680 -> 38:55.600] But that car is always on the front. The cameras these days don't show that car much. So, I get to see only the front of the car.
[38:55.600 -> 38:57.040] And I am fine with it.
[38:57.040 -> 38:59.840] As Hamilton finishes the race in position 1.
[38:59.840 -> 39:06.400] Exactly. Right. You are always seeing the front of the car, so I'm fine with it.
[39:06.400 -> 39:08.940] At spot 3 is Alfa Romeo.
[39:08.940 -> 39:13.560] That car is conflicting in thoughts because they don't change much, but whatever is on
[39:13.560 -> 39:21.320] there is just so sleek looking and so rich looking that I just love that thing.
[39:21.320 -> 39:28.000] Second spot goes to Aston Martin, no points for guessing. I mean, they've done a fabulous job with that.
[39:28.000 -> 39:35.000] I just like that streak of red on the front wing going all the way to the back.
[39:35.000 -> 39:43.000] But top of the spot goes to Alpine. I just love that mixture of blue and red.
[39:43.000 -> 39:45.600] And that car just looks amazing.
[39:45.600 -> 39:50.300] It feels like it's going to be a bullet going through the racetrack and I hope it performs
[39:50.300 -> 39:54.480] that way too.
[39:54.480 -> 39:57.880] With that folks, it's time to end this episode.
[39:57.880 -> 40:03.880] We're going to come back next episode talking about the pre-testing season, which has already
[40:03.880 -> 40:05.280] been in news so much
